I had this email from Sean (team manager) earlier today; can anyone answer his questions?

"Can you get the club to make clear the provision for fire Extinguishers.

Last year the company providing the fire marshals and fire cover for the race stated at the fire briefing :

Teams were to provide their own extinguishers for refueling cover during the race, the extinguishers on pit apron were for safety cover to be used in serious fire. The fire marshal expressed concern that extinguishers had been taken out of their stations during the race.

As no one seemed to have their own fire extinguishers the provided ones were pressed into use again.

Can we get clarification before the race.

Do we need them?
what sort , size etc should be brought.
and state what level of safety clothing the fueler and fire cover to have?"

Derek,
Myself or Paul will discuss with MSV/Barc and will publish here the definitive result.

On the safety clothing aspect, this is stated in the blue book G68, and C(c)81, ie flame proof overalls, gloves and balaclava. I believe the overalls for the refueller and fireman can be proban, but I would check against the regulation
Nothing changed in the 5 years we have been at Snett

As vetrans of a fire in Gerry Marshall's Capri team during the Willhire 24 hrs in the 1980s we are very aware of the fire dangers at refuelling   :(

Accordingly we made sure we had extinguishers at last year's event (although like Derek noticed that many hadn't) we bought Foam-type from a Company called Budget-Fire - great prices, kitemarked, and prompt delivery too - website below.
