Heres one for you technical lot! when the engine is running, on tick over I have 13.7 volts at the battery and at the fuse box, when I rev the engine the battery stays the same but the fuse box goes up to 17 volts, have tried 4 voltage regulators (all about the same voltage) the voltage gauge is reading the same.

what do you think ???

Check the wiring; sounds like the fusebox feed has bypassed the voltage regulator somehow. Must dash, off to school.

Paul Robertson

As derek says wiring ,you may have the power feed where the exciter should be simon, try swapping the two end contacts around, the centre one should be the earth.

Simon Crook

thanks Derek/Paul will give that a go

The power feed to the fuse box must be unregulated then simon.Ie straight from the alternator instead of from the battery.I take my power feed from the kill switch, try that .
Paul

Simon Crook

Hi Paul, my fuse box same as yours, straight from the kill switch,

where should D+ wire go too incase ive done that bit wrong

Hi Trevor

Yep back in a Chilly Pinewood Studios at the moment, I will take you up on your offer of popping over, will mail you when I get the chance to come over.

Its a weird one, I only found out about the problem when the LED rain light decided to explode! I have change alternators, voltage regulators wiring and still have the problem!

The only thing I think it could be is where the D+ wire should go, the other two /  D- earth, DF - alternator
thanks
