I am currently assembling my stock 602 engine with:

9.0:1 barrels and pistons (Perfect Circle)
a freshly ground cam shaft from Kent Cams (not exactly like the club cam, but a nice fast road profile)
cleaned up valves
thoroughly cleaned engine block
All new seals allround

Could you give me a few pointers for breaking in this new slightly modified engine? It will be driven on the road, not on the track. So i do need to keep it going for a longer period :)

Cheers!

Put plenty of cam lube on the cam when assembling,On initial start up run the engine at 2500 rpm for 20 minutes to allow the cam to bed in (do not let it idle during this time) if you have a problem stop it sort the problem and reinitialise the cam bed in .For running in you should accelerate and then snap the throttloe shut regularly to allow some oil past the rings(snapping the throttle shut stops the rings to be forced against the barrells)No more than 40mph to start with for at least 200miles then gradually build up in 5mph increments every 100 miles or so ,you should actually be able to feel the engine loosen as it beds in.After 1000mile change the oil reset the tappets .
I hold no responsibility for these comments this is what we do and have few problems.

Thanks Paul. It's just hard to know what is the best way to break in the engine, since everyone seems to have his own theories and ideas.
