Sorry Pete, you are wrong....

What happened with Mallory was down to the fact that the circuit management were operating so far outside their agreed planning permissions that they were doomed from the moment the had the Chavfest event. That was the final straw that caused the residents to take action to enforce the agreed operating plans. BARC fought this, and lost, and then decided that running the circuit was not financially viable for them.

As I said in reply to your FB post, this badly worded and ill-thought through petition hasn't a snowball's chance in Hell of getting anything done because you simply cannot force someone to give up their civil rights. The "numerous" cases it alludes to have all gone through the courts and had legal principles that have been enshrined in English Law for centuries applied to them.

Cheers

Just a little explanation and example of where circuits will be having problems in the future....

Below is a quote from the new MD at Silverstone. I have no problem with his statement, apart from the highlighted phrase

"Silverstone has great potential to become the ultimate entertainment venue and with the support of the team I believe we can make it the place to go," Allen said. "I want our customers to know that they can visit the circuit any weekend of the year and be guaranteed an amazing value for money experience whether that is to watch motor racing, visit a music concert, enjoy a food festival or attend an exhibition"

I moved to Silverstone, knowing full well that it has a motor racing circuit nearby that has operated continuously since the 1950s. So long as they comply with their existing planning permissions, I have no recourse due to their being some noise from the circuit (during operational hours)

If they want to hold concerts, they will have to get a licence for them as well as planning permission. This would give the local residents the opportunity to support, or prevent, this development. Chances are I would be against this... As is my right....

If Silverstone's business plan relies on these future concerts, in my opinion they are screwed, as the residents of Whittlebury (the village that causes the Church Break on Sundays) will probably put the kybosh on this....

Trev:

I read this week that they are planning a Britcar 24 Hr at Silverstone in April. Do you know if this has been agreed with the the residents of Whittlebury?

Fortunately for us, seagulls make more noise than we do, and most of us are still able to control our rear ends.

Yes they have the Britcar 24 hour race back this year. Supposedly they have done a lot of work with the few residents who were very anti this race...

Only time will tell

A litte bird at the show suggested that entry numbers may be an even bigger challenge than noise.

Silverstone: warning bells going off all over the place. Don't know how keen on motor racing the new MD is but his ambition to create 'the ultimate entertainment venue', and offer 'amazing value for money experience' seems designed to run the place as a 24-hours a day 7-days a week operation with bit of dicing thrown in from time to time, if they can fit it into the schedule. 'Music concerts' indeed; this is not Beethoven's 5th, it's rock until the early hours with feeder routes clogged with sozzled fans. We know because we've moved to escape such a scenario, building someone's bottom-line while the general public can go hang. Silverstone has a tradition as a motor-racing circuit, carefully controlled by responsible management. Now it risks being turned into something broader, and crasser, pulling in a totally different kind of punter. The way of the world? Let's hope not, and that common-sense prevails.
