Well at least it looks like we have provoked some lively debate amongst the club again. Glad to see some old names appearing again.

Now for my two penneth Im afraid.

Firstly, I think we need to thank Martin for all the time and hard work he has put in on our behalf for the 24 hour race so far, and no doubt will have to do for the next few weeks.

A cant remember anyone pinning Martin to the floor WWF stylee and threatening to rip off his head if they didnt give the job to them. But perhaps I missed that.

It is easier to sit back and say what you dont like about something than it is to get involved in trying to change it. All clubs are guilty of this, we are no different. I hope for next year we can have a full 24hr sub committee sorted out as soon as possible. This will aid communication throughout the club and enable jobs to be divided in to more 'bitsized' portions rather than the monolith we have at present. I will put my name down I hope you can too.

At the Dinner and Dance we had a Technical Committee meeting. At this meeting the 'second class with non club cam' was discussed and we decided it was not the right way to go this year. I was there I hold my hand up. A decision was made that we could not 'go back' on what was voted at the AGM. If it all turns to brown stuff this year I know I cant go running to mummy and say it was the nasty big boys that made me do it.

Secondly.

Personally I do not think we can have 2 classes.

From a constitutional angle, we have not voted for an amendment. We (the club)voted for the club cam at the AGM.

This is our club run for the benefit of our members and is a democracy. Any changes must be arrived at in consultation not dictation, for whatever reason, however well meaning.

Surely we should stick to our original policy for at least this year.

If at the end of the year we find grids are down, the pack is more spreadout and costs have gone up then we will all need to look back at this year and work out why and consider all the factors. It is far too early and far to simplistic to just blame everything on the dreaded 'C' word.

Without ranting even further on I will make a few bullet points:

The cost of a new cam is far less than the increase in the cost of the 24hr race from 2003 to 2004.

What spectacle will the race be with a commentary such as 'and car 39 goes passed 19, but although that is for positon on the race it isnt really because that car 39 is not scoring points'

Or ' and the 5th car is actually third and the 6th car really 31st'

If you are leading the 24hr race and are taken out by a non championship car how will you feel?

Are we encouraged new members to join by introducing a club cam and saying for £30 you can build an engine to be up with top 10?

Is it the fitting of a new cam that is discouraging people? Or is it that, 5 races in to the season, we are taking about dropping the need for it?
