I'm new to 2CV Racing, and just buying a car with the intention of endurance racing.

What MUST I do to get a normal road Dolly to the grid.

Fire, Belts, Roll Cage, Ingnition cut-off...... I assume

But what about suspension, brakes, steering, windows, spoilers, engine, gearbox etc.

Any help gratefully received. Does anyone recommend a book or website to visit. :?:

Trevor Williams

Gerry,
Welcome to trhe world of 2CV racing.

Please could you let us know where you are from so that if we have anyone in your area with specialist knowledge we can get you together.

First place to start is our Technical regs. Please I can email you a copy of last years (2005 are stll awaiting BARC / MSA ratification).

You may also like to consider buying a ready prepped car rather than doing the conversion yourself. Just a thought.

Cheers
Trevor

Gerry Simpson

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I live near Chester.

I'm not sure about buying a fully prepared car, as I would almost certainly take it apart again to satisfy myself that I knew what it was like.

But I would consider it if I could find one for under £1,000.

I'm retired so enjoy playing with these things.

I would like a copy of theregs, but I've heard that there's control camshafts and spoilers is that true?

Gerry  :D

Trevor Williams

Gerry,
Yes we do have a control camshaft, this is supplied via Kent Cams on an exchange basis. cost is £46ish. Spoilers are mandatory as well, these are supplied by 2CVParts.com, our series sponsor ECAS (tel No. 01785 282822 contact Roy Eastwood) I think they cost £12.50 each.

As to cost of preparing a road going car, it is a case of how long is a piece of string!!!

Have a look at the Racing Requirements section on the front page of the website which will give you some idea of the works involved.

I will try and find some members in your locality that could possibly give some advice

Cheers

Trevor

As you are near Chester, you're not far from us... 15mins south of Wrexham.

Both my husband Neil (the technical secretary) and I have a 2CV racer, prepared to slightly different standards, we would be happy for you to come over and have a look and chat about the cars.  Drop me an e-mail and we'll see what we can sort out.

:-)

Hi Christine,

I'm south of Chester Farndon area, yes I would love to come an discuss 2CV racing.

I've bought a car today, on eBay getting it on Saturday!!!

I will be doing most of the work myself so will need all the help I can get.

Pete Sparrow

Gerry.
I'm not local to you and am generally good for nothing so I'm told but I do know the odd thing about 2cv's and race set up so please feel free to contact me via e-mail or if you'd rather (I would because my typings crap) ring me either at home on 01276 600810 or at work on 01344 771778.
A chat to some one who know's what they are talking about as soon as you get the car will save you masses of time and hassle, trust me.If you've ever raced anything else it will be nothing like it so be careful.2cv's turn normal thinking on it's head.
hope this helps.

Now I'm confused, my local Citroen Agent has heard I'm in the market and is offering me a fully prep'd car for £2,700 bit steep I thought?

Whats the history?? any spares??, when was it last raced?? who built it? how long ago, whats the spec?? thats what you need to know, may be a good price if raced recently, but lets face it, what is the market for a 2cv race car, my be room to move on price if notes are flashed.

Too late, the die is cast. I have bought my car, and driven it home.

There's a fair amount of rust, but superficial and the chassis seems remarkably sound, the floor is fine and nearly everything works.

One problem area is the bonnet hinge area which is rusty.

Does anyone have any suggestions, I could cut it out and weld a new bit in, but we are talking racing car not concourse winner, is it suffiecient to fill it paint and put some clips on to retain the bonnet?

Any suggestions phone phone or email.

Hi Gerry.
A bonnet hinge repair panel can be obtained from ECAS (01785 282882)our series sponsor for around £20-25.It will be worth having the bonnet held on at the top end well as they do take a bit of a hammering.
There is a knack to putting them on but almost any 2cv specialist will tell you how.
Make sure on you new car chassis that the side walls (where the spring cans are) are in good condition.I would strongly recommend that if the chassis is a standard 2cv item that you strengthen it between the front axle mounting points and first spring can mounting point as the springs you are going to be using will be able to overcome the chassis rigidity very easily,i.e. the chassis will twist over a period of time and cause handling problems when under heavy load.If you're not sure where to look or what to do I can send some pics up.I can also help you with modified spring rate and the best place to buy them.
Regards.

Hi Gerry,

Do take some of Pete's advice - he knows what he's talking about and has helped me in the past.  I'll drop you an e-mail about when you want to come visit us to look at our cars.
