Any one read the proposed MSA rule changes in Motor Sports now? This is for implementation from 1st Januaey 2009
C(b)19: ....must be fitted with a dry break fuel sampling coupling, approved by the FIA, fitted within 300mm of the fuel injection unit or carburettor(s)......
Any one know whether this will apply to us? If so, any idea of cost?
Trevor
The one that caught my eye was the one about communications; I presume that our regs outweigh the MSA ones regarding contact between pit and car?
If it's implemented, those dry-break couplings could cost over £200!
Derek,
Not worried about the radio reg, as you are correct that our regs for the 24 hour race out-weigh the Blue Book. The only change is to allow the use of one-way radio communication under the control of the Clerk of the Course. This was trialled in the Legends at Brands recently and is seen as a good idea as it allows instant communication of red flag / incidents etc. I believe that it would be the organising clubs who would be charged with the supply of these (though do not quote me!)
Chris,
Not sure the cost would be that much, as I have seen on another forum costings for this kit from GPR. The major expense is the sampling tube, which when it is implemented (as it has been passed by the MSA) it would be a good idea for the club to purchase a couple and bring to each race (depending on everyone buying the same kit)
Also, anyone with a helmet to BS6658 type A will need a new one after 1st January 2010, so start saving!

Having read, re-read and read it again, I think we are exempt.
'Roadgoing production classes' will be exempt. We are certainly based on a series production car but I can't find any definition in the blue book as to what is meant by roadgoing. It could be either:
a) a car that was constructed as roadgoing originally; or
b) a car that is literally roadgoing at present (i.e. taxed, MOTd etc.)
If it's a) than we're all exempt. If it's b) then some of us (Christine, Derek etc.) are exempt only! In that case, I'll probably just put my car through an MOT :D
