I know Paul has already initiated a discussion on this subject but the trail is so long that I guessed any further comments might be lost.
First, it seems a pity not to mark this in some way and, if it isn't, could be seen as a lost opportunity to promote and strengthen the Club. The first step, I'd suggest, is to ask why bother? What would be gained? Attract more members? Boost funds? Invest in the future health of 2CV racing? Secure better track options by raising awareness and understanding amongst circuit owners and organising clubs? Build on the popularity of 2CV events with the public? Just a few possibilities and I'm sure there are many more to be identified.
If, then, objectives could be agreed a plan, even a relatively modest one, could be devised to attain them. Someone proposed involvement in blue chip classic meetings. A great vision but perhaps a pipe-dream. Others have suggested a commemorative illustrated book of some sort, or merchandise such a t-shirts and caps.
My own idea (I can hear the loading of ammunition now) is to link a special 'display, with the 24-Hours at Snetterton; perhaps negotiate with the circuit to allow, say, half a day to be devoted to track rides, for public and press (print, radio & TV), and also celebrities who might be tempted to drive in the event itself. The value of this would be that all the cars are there & one assumes available. The track time would not be so significant as to affect preparation or mechnical health. It would, most of all, be fun and colourful and focus even more attention of the 24-Hours itself. All this assuming, of course, that the Club would clearly understand why it was doing it!
Just a thought anyway because, like everyone, I've got a lot out of this form of racing over the years (yes, even coming coming last at Mallory) & would like to see it continue for many years to come. Maybe even twenty...
I thought the committee were working on a weekend meeting at Mallory (coz thats where it started). It'd be nice to keep the 20yr anniversary & the 24hour as separate meetings, I find the 24hour a bit anti-social, not to mention bloody hard work, & Im only a softie driver who gets sent off to sleep..... ;D
on a slighty diffrenet (but publicity linked) question, are we doing Race Retro again? I can do another day on the stand if so...
correct and yes
So far the plan for mallory is, a track day on the saturday 3 sessions per hour so friends, team members, ex racers etc can have ago and a session for road cars if we get enough interest.Food and a band (maybe) in the evening.
Any helpful suggestions ?
Sounds good Paul, but could it be opened up a little to include media to spread the word? For example invite presenters from The One Show, Midlands Today, local radio and newspapers, as well as the motor sport and general motoring press? The more support & visibility generated the better, I suggest, & Twenty Years Of 2CV Racing is the once-in-two-decades hook...
Having said this, I still think a link with the 24-Hours of Snetterton has more national appeal, but maybe, as Helen says, it isn't a practical proposition. And besides, clearly a lot of thinking has already gone into what might be done.
Frank ,i think it's a great idea .Would it be something you would have the time to be able to organise and run with by any chance?
Running my business, trying to build a new car ,helping with the 24hr race and trying to help organise this ,is as much as i personally am prepared to do, so any assistance would be greatly received.

I know, Paul, I know. Prostate cancer in February, wife going in for a hip operation on 7 November, a novel on hold. But yes, I'd happily write stuff & do some contact work if it would help...

Here's something tangible, Paul, to starts things off. I got my copy of the MSA mag this morning, with info about the annual London Motorsport Show moving to Brands. The '08 dates are 21-22 November. I talked with the organiser, Philip Bunn, and even at this short notice the Club could stage a static display of up to four cars in a 6-metre awning for £384 (negotiable?). It would also be possible, for a one-off registration fee of £200, to take part in 20-minute track rides, six sessions per day, for existing and potential sponsors, key targets like new drivers, press contacts and general punters. Bunn directed me to the Show website, londonmotorsport.co.uk. Go to Exhibition Info and enter user name: philip (lower case, one l), password: bunn (again, lower case). Comprehensive details, including booking forms, are available there. Bunn's 'phone number is 01444 246446. Even if time is too short for this year, it sounds like the kind of thing that could be considered for '09.
Incidentally, the same issue contains an article by Stuart Turner on the Top Ten Tips for Beating the Drum, i.e generating publicity. Some sound sense, as you would expect, and a number of good ideas that might be followed up.
Hope this helps...
