Hi all,
I'm currently in discussions with Aubrey about an AGM proposal I have submitted. I would like to see only drivers that compete in a race score points (i.e. you can't score the points of your teammate if you are sharing - although you can of course still share drives).
Personally I think the current rule skews the championship and is not particularly fair (how can someone who does half the races be able to score more points than someone who does all of them, and beats them in every race ???). It is slightly bizarre how you can do half the races but still (in theory) win the championship!
The argument against is that it will discourage people to share (reducing the amount of people taking part, although not necessarily the amount of cars).
Your views and votes would be welcome on this.
Thanks,
Matthew
My initial thought is that this will mean that only those with the finances to compete in every round themselves, without sharing cars (and costs) will be able to win.
What difference did it make to this years championship matt that it needs changing? Not much point in me building a new car to share if only one of us can score points and what about the 24hr? will only one driver be able to score points in that?because one rule should apply for all.
The proposal is not that only one driver can score, you score points if you drive the car
You do realise that you're talking about a change for 2010, the deadline for rule changes for 2009 has already passed.
Im with Matt on this one, if you dont drive in the race you shouldnt get points in the championship. It may be that a few people then have to make a choice between sacrificing the chance to win the championship over sharing the costs but how many people are actually out there to seriously try & win the championship as opposed to have a bit of fun? There arent that many of the regulars sharing drives.
Paul, its about the principle as much as anything else. Christine finished ahead of me in the championship this year because of this rule, yet the only race she competed in that she finished ahead of me on the track was the 24hour. And if you look at the rookie table, Keith Shoebridge was credited with points for 2nd rookie in Race 1 at Oulton- but Pete Sparrow was driving!
But that was the rule helen, and if i had been able to drive phil and i would have shared and phil would probably not have won the championship.
maybe, maybe not, but it might have made a much closer & more exciting battle for the title which can't be a bad thing for the club?
Whilst I have some sympathy with Matt's view I do know of drivers who would not come out if they could not share their car. We are in a recession and money will be tighter for many this year.
What I did not envisage was that there would be tactical driver changes to manipulate the points system. I have no objection to Neil pulling Christines up as she pulls him down and you are only dissadvantaged if the lower drives beats you, so its swings and roundabouts.
How about allowing points to be shared with one nominated driver for the whole season. If I was clever enough I woudl add that as a new poll but I am to computers what dracula was to Anaemia. :-*
You could have best 5 results to count for each driver, those sharing would have to count all their races those doing all the races could keep trying, however, some may decide not to support the whole championship and just do 2 meetings plus snett or even 3 meetings and then drop one round and not do snett at all. We would then have to have bonus points for Snett again so that you couldn't miss it. Alternatively you could share with someone quicker than you and still not win anything, Unfortunately which ever scoring system you have it will not always suit everyone, clearly the F1 system is wrong (as lewis won - just!!) it should surely have been on number of race wins so that Massa would have won, how about who leads the most laps in the season, it would be possible to win the championship by just doing Snett!!! we have to achieve a balance that does not work to the detriment of the championship or the club. Most methods usually end up with a similar outcome for the championship.
Proposals for alternative scoring systems to Aubrey please.

Not quite correct Phill, the deadline for non-technical proposals is 5.00pm 14 days prior to the date of the AGM.
However, the MSA need to ratify any regulations around now, so it don't make any difference. The 2009 regs will be basically the same as the 2008 regs because the AGM is in the New Year.
Any changes that may come from the AGM would then need the written agreement of All registered competitors etc etc . Do you see the herd of cats approaching?? ;D
So everyone can spend xmas dreaming up an obscure scoring system to confound Aubrey with for presentation at the AGM.
I think the current system is excellent !!! ;D
Woof woof

If this is the case helen why do we need to change anything?
it depends Paul, on whether you want a true driver championship or a car championship.
I thought the idea was to have "a championship" rather than 14 cars and no championship.
We have just had the most successful year since the introduction of the dreaded camshaft, lets see if we can repeat it in this economic uncertanty before we go changing things.
