Title: Looking for some carburettor advice
Post by: Jose M Oliva on May 21, 2009, 12:00:46
Hello.

I have two Solex 26/35 CSIC carburettors, one installed on car and another one that I have never tested. These are their characteristics:

Installed one (corresponds to a very late model, therefore a bit of mpg conscious):
Primary venturi bore: 18 mm
Secondary venturi: 26 mm
Primary main jet: 102
Secondary main jet: 90
Idle jet: 39
Primary air correction jet: 1F2
Secondary air correction jet: 2AA
Pump injector: 1 (¿35?)

The one I have never tried:
Primary venturi bore: 21 mm
Secondary venturi: 24 mm
Primary main jet: 120
Secondary main jet: 70
Idle jet: 40
Primary air correction jet: 1F2
Secondary air correction jet: 2AA
Pump injector: 40

My engine has the biggest compression ratio allowed by Tech Regulations and also the Club camshaft. Currently I am using the carburettor standard settings, but I believe there is some improvement available on this matter. My first idea is to switch to the second carburettor as it has more air pass, but I do not know what to do with the jets.

Does anybody have any advice about this topic that can be shared?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

José M. Oliva

Drill out primary fuel 102 to 135,secondary fuel to 95,1f2 to 130,2aa to somewhere between 130 and 160.this is the same regardless of which carb you use although i would tend to use the 21/24

I kind of got the same setup in my road 2cv. 9:1 compression and camshaft done by Kent Cams to be almost identical to the Club one.

I recently installed a 21/24 carb as well (came from a Dyane) after getting this tip from the Dutch racing team. I currently have 120 primary and 120 secondary jet and thought this may well be a little too much. But reading Paul's reply i understand we can go even bigger with the jets.

Do you also use an open airfilter (instead of the stock one?). I do, and that means a lot more air can be sucked through.

open air filter gives too much noise on day to day basis ::)
