Title: History of the 24 hour race
Post by: Nick Roads on November 18, 2009, 22:21:55

I am putting together 2 documents to include on the club website (hopefully!) and to send out to interested applicants for the 2010 24 hour race and future.

The first is a review of the 24 hour races to date

A very rough draft is available http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B5Ar79wlZ8lNYjU2YzM1ZDUtOTkyYy00ZDEyLWE5NmEtYjc0MmNhODNjZmE3&hl=en (http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B5Ar79wlZ8lNYjU2YzM1ZDUtOTkyYy00ZDEyLWE5NmEtYjc0MmNhODNjZmE3&hl=en) as a pdf. I will edit this down with a bit of help from those fine folk at Snails Pace. I am posting this to see if anyone can help with the items in italics below

What would be very helpful to have is any text or pictures of any of the races from 1990 to 1996?

Any pictures of 1997 race?

Also some text about the races in:

2003?

2004?

Who were the drivers in BAPS racing team of 2003?

Anyone have the actual times and best laps for 2004?

Was the BTM laptime of 1.46.719 in the 2009 24 hour the fastest lap at Snetterton in a 24 hour race?

Who else was in Gadget Car in 2008?

Most of what I have was taken from the old 2cv website and I also have some other details to add from Snails Pace since 2005 and an article of 1998 I have been sent.

If anyone can provide any more background or correct anything that is wrong then please post the details in this thread on the forum, email me at [email protected]. If you have something you want to post email me and I will send you my address.

The second document is to help new entrants with details as to how to put together a car etc. This to be done in January and will put up a draft mid Jan as I am out of the UK for 5 weeks from Dec 4

BAPS - Bousfield, Adnit, Panas, Storey

2003 was BLOODY HOT!!!! I think the temperature in Tete Rouge 2 was measured at 43c in the car. The timing system went tits up during the night losing 6 hours of data?

I will check for lap times of 2004 tonight, I have got most results sheets so you never know!

You also might want to make more mention of the fact that Alan Gow, Chairman of the MSA and BTCC bigwig has competed and won the race

Excellent project, Nick!

In case you haven't already gone there, these two sites may be of use:

http://www.snet24.co.uk
http://oldsite.2cvracing.org.uk/

Eventually I'll get all that ported over to the new site, but it's a big job!

I've got some Mondello pictures, but the scanner's not talking to anyone at the moment. If you're lucky I may still have the photographer's details on the envelope containing the 2001 (02?) photos.

I know Graham Harper keeps a lot of race stuff; he may have some early photos. There were some articles in Car & Car Conversions as well (the car in these now belongs to Christine).

Alan Gow is also remembered for forcing the safety car off the track during an over-enthusiastic re-start during the night!I will look out old race details I have for those missing results.
