Simon - if you can find a better sponsor to put up a significant fund for this years race, then you will have done much better than me. I have been ignored or rejected by literally dozens of companies I've approached. In commercial marketing terms our race really is not a big event - yet. It has enormous potential, and has the active support of Jonathan Palmer and MSV, but the club has to deliver a full field. Then all the parties involved can work together to build it into a big event in years to come.
Your point about cars finishing with either an '04 or an '03 engine is quite correct.
All I've been looking for is general agreement to allow a few cars at the back of the grid to START the race with '03 engines, which is currently not allowed by the rules. It does seem that the general view is tending towards not accepting that minor amendement.
Unless there is a strong sway in favour of suporting that minor rule amendment by the end of today, then I will withdraw the proposal.
The ultimate irony would then be that if a team did lose their only '04 engine in practice, I'm sure the CoC would rule that they could start with an '03 engine. So, the amendment would be implemented for the race, without there having been any opportunity to use it to help encourage a few more cars onto the back of the grid.
In case you and other readers can't quite detect it, I am extremely pissed off. Roll on June 21.
