Title: Racing Lumenition/ Road Lumenition
Post by: Marc Fenner on March 01, 2006, 19:49:07
I have just had a racing lumenition fail before a test day the other day.
After speaking to ECAS they informed me that the racing box and the road box are electronically identical. The only diffrence being the colour and the quick release conector plug. Road lumentions are easily available off scrap cars and second hand. As a budget team we cant keep spending out money unnecessarily. If both are the same why can we not use the silver boxes on the cars?? :?:

Marc,
Sorry, but because it is in the regulations. If you turn up with a road version you will contravene the regs and have to explain yourself to the CoC and MSA

Is there a posibility that the regs will be changed? As its money people can be saving and using else where on the car?

You could always paint it blue chop the plug off and see if anyone notices mark.

Marc
I have been told by Luminition that there are other less apparrent differences between the two modules. I, and probably others know what they are!
As for changingthe regs, it is any members right to suggest changes via the AGM. As this would be a technical regs change you would have to put it to the Tech committee first for discussion.

Paul,
I would have thought that you had far too many bad memories of things being chopped off the luminition wires!!!!! At least everything came good last year!

Cheers

Appreciate the need to keep within the regs but ...........

Talking to Roy, ECAS don't have the racing version at the moment.
Supply may, therefore, be a problem.

With the season so close to starting, perhaps a more flexible approach should be adopted especially as there's apparently no performance advantage to be gained.

A case of "force majeur" perhaps?

There are other suppliers and regs are regs.

Just to stick my spoon in.

If you want the racing Luminition and Roy at ECAS doesn't have any stock at the moment, speak to Autocar Electrical Equipment Co Ltd, the manufacturers. 0207 403 4334.
I spoke to them at the end of last year and they had stock available. Just make sure you get the racing version.

Points (when correctly set up) are far more reliable than that electronic guff!!

The trick is to never use new points for the 24 hr and start with a larger gap than required so they dont close up too much.
