Title: MSA getting tougher on fuel
Post by: Trevor Williams on March 20, 2007, 14:25:54
Some of you may have seen the article in Motorsport News recently about the 6 competitors who were excluded from a rally after failing fuel testing

The MSA announced a while back that they were going to get tougher on fuel irregularities and it seems that they have started. This rally was a clubmans event.

So, what does it mean to us?

My first advice to you all is to READ THE BLUE BOOK!!! Section P, page 86. This gives the fuel specification that is allowed in UK MSA motorsport.
A few things to be aware of:
Your fuel MUST be PUMP FUEL. The definition of what is pump fuel is in the book.
The MAXIMUM Ron number is 100 Ron. This is below the FIA maximum and could get you into dificulties if you use fuel additives. Why? Because Super unleaded has a Ron of 97 to 99, depending on which brand you use. Esso is 97, Shell 98 and Tesco 99 (though just jow many people are still buying petrol from Tesco is anyones guess) These RON numbers can be out by +/- one point.
So, if you put an octane booster or valve lubricant in your fuel, there is all likelyhood that you WILL make your fuel ILLEGAL. If we are tested, and it is a possibility, and you are caught, you will be thrown out of the race.
You have been warned!!!
Cheers
