24h-Race / Message for Thames Gateway College 2CV
August 12, 2009, 22:11:05
Hi there,

Just notice "Alice" finished the 24hr race again! Well done everyone.

Unfortunately we didnt make snetterton as we were out competing in west wales.

I lost contact with the lads who brought the car. John as some photos and history with the car he would like to pass on.

Perhaps you could get in touch again
email [email protected]

Thanks

Unfortunately due to lack of interest of other members and work commitments its time to sell Alice

The car as been garaged since the 2007 24Hr race
The car finished 21st O/A and raised 10K for Breast Cancer, St Giles Hospice and Alices Dream in Dublin
The car and team won spirit of the event.
The car was re-built from chassis upwards.
The car had new chassis prior to the last race in Mondello. Its a genuine citreon one.
The car had loads of new bits
Set of new AVO shocks. Refurbed spring canisters and rods.
Rebuit engine and gearbox with all the engine tweeks etc.
Fitted Belgium front arms. New brakes and pipework.
Re-wired, painted etc.

Brand new exhaust manufactured and fitted, Ashley competition exhausts manufactured and supplied parts.
Made to measurements from Paul R and Pete S.

A weekends work and this car could race. It will be sold without the driver seat and harness (not mine).

In 24hrs we changed one wheel nut and back light.

Most folks at the 24hr race will remember the car. Bright yellow.

The car needs lightening to make it really competitive.

Loads of spares including.

2 off spare engines fully rebuit with new rings, valves etc. Club cams. 1 never been run.
Engines kindly set up by Paul R. at Tower citreon. (Spot on).
1 spare gearbox fully rebuilt by DMD in Bilston west mids.
3 tea chests fully of 2CV spares
12 or 14 off wheels and tyres...firestones and 1 set of michelins
spare rear arms built up and front arms.
2 off good original doors.
Probably other bits missed off list. Can send pictures if interested.

I Would have loved to race this car again, but dont have time due to rallying commitments.
Would not have time to work on car...hence one of the reasons we aint raced it again.
I will keep my race license up as will hopefully drive again sometime on 2CV scene.

If anyone interested i do have pictures of car and car rebuild.

I have been instructed by the team members to start at £2500

Am open to any serious offers.

Good Luck to all in the 2CV club with the racing this season...You're a great bunch of folks!!!

Thanks

Karl Ellis

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have or know who of photographs of Alices dream getting presented with the Spirt of the event at Snett.

We have some pictures of the team but non of us getting presented with the trophy..

All of the people who donated/donating are well impressed and have or am going to chip out some more money... we have already collected over 5K and still loads to get in. we are trying to get some pictures together.

Been a little busy lately... reading the forum when we can..
Car rebuilding starts soon ready for mallory and pembrey..

Guessed so!

I thought the minimum would be a Nat A as i had this before with the Rallying. Think it maybe a bridge to far this year unless the MSA will count my 3 stints at Snett as 3 races!!! (Dont think so).
The other lads will struggle as well to get enough to upgrade, but if we can get mallory and pembrey that will help and maybe another Stowe?
These will all count for next year.

I will talk to the lads.

Anyway we can all come and watch (or spanner) as required, Good excuss
to drink beer with everyone, providing Mr Sparrow dont finish it all off first !!!

See you all

We cant do Anglesey due to commitments with certain people and unfortunatley sliverstone falls in holiday times...Although certain faces may turn up to have a look whats going on!
But we are planning on doing Mallory and Pembrey for sure!!!

We will do our best to support you guys but this year but still on a bit of a learning curve!

Next year we hope to be sorted!

24h-Race / Spa 24hrs - November 2007

Pete, i told my X wife that with rallying....It dont always work..

Anyway. My mechanics and the other drivers are sending me daft about this 24hr race in Belgium.
Can you help us with a few questions.

1. When is it? How much approx?
2. I think our car Alice will be OK(Once lightened)
3. What about licence. When i rallied in Belgium had to upgrade to National A Rally(still hold) But still on Nat B Novice Race is this OK?
4. Any silly rules... I know when we use to do the Monteberg rally sprints
you had to have a ground sheet to service on..if you didnt i think they use to fine you or exclude you!!!
5.If its only half as good as the rallying it will be the mutts nutts!!!!

Let us know (or anyone at 2CV Forum) My men are driving me mad!!!

By the way moneys rolling in for Alices Dream...
Havent forgot everyone will post something about Snett soon

Hi everyone,

Well what can i say... What a brill day.. my mate john still as a smile like a cheshire cat!!!

BIG BIG BIG thanks to everyone who came and helped us and let use tools etc etc.

Thanks to everyone whos helped out with advice before this event..
Im not gonna mention names but they will be rewarded at Snett with alcoholic beverages....

The racing was even better than what we imagined, everyone is really friendly and willing to help.

Anyway a really great day out and really good value for money.
We know what we have to do to Alice, and the tweeks we did made a big difference at the end. The only damage to the car was when Trevor's awning blew off and over and landed on us, denting our shiny new paint work and landing on top of our mechanics!!!!

That awnings gonna take a fair bit of super-gluing Trevor!!!

A good mate of mine Paul Bunch came a took o load of Pics for us for some of people who have donated... Paul 1st class at the old camera stuff and had a lot of stuff printed, i will ask him if he took any shots of the other cars etc, during the race.

Anyway off to the garage!

See you all at Snett.

Regards and thanks to all again for your help

Hi everyone,

Wonder if any one can help with the following, perhaps you could ring us
and we could you call you back 07970 216426.or answer via the forum.

1. We have 4 red AVO adjustable shocks. The rear 2 seem OK but the front 2 have bottomed and we cannot move them. Can these be re-furbed or do AVo do exchange repair, or i they scrap.

2. Worse than this the tie bars that go to the center cylindrical tubes mounted horizontally, just flap about and go in and out. I had a look at a
workshop manual and i am sure that this is the suspension unit/springs.
I am guessing that the cars been running round just on the shocks and bumps stops. thats why the front shocks are shot.

3. I fear that these suspension units are either meggar bucks or not available? What do we do.

4. Also these suspension units are held on by 2 bolts under the plastic bungs in the floor pan. The brackets that hold these tubes up have been welded to the chassis. Is this standard or as this been done for strength as a racing mod.

5. Do we need the special tool for taking the steering rods off the steering rack ball joints? need to swap one steering rod because it is bent.
Does anyone have a knack for getting these off. I have a photo of the factory splitter. Can soon get one made but just wondered if we could save a little time.

We are working on the car today. If anyone can help with advice over the phone this would appreciated. We will call you back to save your bill.

Once again sorry if we seen a bit thick or slow on these 2Cvs but only understand Escorts.

Technical / LOCAL TEAM INFO...MANY THANKS

Pete

Thanks for that mate. Trevor W. as also sent me this contact.

Great stuff! Will contact soon.

Car is now painted shell, but were starting to hang the bits back on!

Its a bit different to what i am use to but its good fun and an interesting
challenge. The charity bit is coming on good and we already raised a few
grand in sponsors for the charities.

Seen something about a Rally raid in a 2CV?

Anyone you know had a go at this ?
