General Discussion / Michael Ridgeway RIP
September 12, 2011, 18:43:01
I have to report that my old friend and right hand man Mike Ridgway sadly passed away at his home in Germany on the 4th September. He would have been 76 this month.

Many of you will remember Mike as the Project 2CV Team goffer for the years that I raced. He travelled the circuits with Derek, Dave and myself and although we gave him constant abuse it was always in the spirit of love and respect. After my retirement he carried on his 20 year association with the formula travelling from Germany to act as pit crew and refueler for several of you.

Mikes son has asked that you drink a shot of whisky in his memory ---- but with no water!

It is for sure the end of an era. RIP dear Mike.

24h-Race / Re: Ian Gammon-Hardaway Trophy.

The trophy is named after Ian who died in an unfortunate crash of one of the cars at a race in the early days at Lydden. His fiance at the time presented the cup to the club to mark his memory and the Racing For Hope team lead by yours trully where the first to recieve it back in 1991 after being stuck in a ferry strike at Holyhead and only reaching the track an hour before qualifying started. If memory serves such was the spirit in the club at that time that all the other teams racing that year had agreed delay qualifying until we arrived.

Hold the trophy with pride

Best regards

General Discussion / David Byers

Some of you may of read of the passing of David Byers whilst completing at Pembrey last weekend.

For the more long standing club members who had the privellege to race at and have memories of Mondello, you may remember that David was our COC for the early events and fellow driver in the later years. As the club sec who worked with David in those halicion days I have writen to Motoring News on your behalf to express our sadness at Davids untimely death.

Best regards

Now here's a thought for you!

Many years ago I was approached by the folks that run the racing on the Isle Of Man who wanted to offer us a package. However, Mondello was on the calender then so 2 awy meets was thought to be to expensive.

They offered - Racing, a sprint and a hill climb plus subsidised ferry (leave spare cars, vans etc in a pound at Liverpool docs)

Juts a thought, and of course Croix un Turnois was a good trip

Hi From the Fat Controller

I've got video coverage from Mondello, Mallory and Oulton plus a SKY interview

Where do I send it?

For those with a long memory - Hello from the Fat Controller.

If someone would like to give me an address I have some video footage that may be of interest.

First up is Project 2cv's first trip to Mondello (anyone remember the ferry strike?) at which the team won the "Ian Gammon Hardaway Spirit of the Event " award.
Second is more Mallory
& Third is yours trully being interviewed by SKY TV plus some coverage of an Oulton Race

Thats what I think I've got but who knows it's been a long time since I had anything to play them on. So if someone can convert it all to CD and let me have a copy back I'll shove it in the post!
