24h-Race / Re: Tips & Tricks?

I did not do the race last year.... but have done well into double figures  24 hour races..

A tank lasts about 2 hours 20 if its dry and you are on the pace  could be longer,,, but you are full throttle a lot here.... if you get an efficient engine perhaps 2 40... In the wet then add 10 minutes... change drivers on the fuel stops.

Unless you are running for a position stay out on the pace cars, yellows, unless you are 1 hr 30 into a stint then come in and change drivers.

Hold your line... dont dive into the corners but carry momentum out and overtake on the exits...

Dont listen to people telling you this or that is this revs that gear etc.. it depends on the set up on the car....

Dont look to rev to peak power on the engine try to change a little early, dont use engine breaking to slow down, the car is overbreaked so use them instead.
Having said that you will gain huge chunks of time at the first and second corners....Turn 1 (Riches) take as late a turn in as you can, its a double apex, should be flat in 4th regardless of your car keep your foot in allow the car to apex early drift and comer back to apex a second time. Turn 2 Sear leads onto the straight and is therefore super important to lap time, break a little early apex late but accellerate to apex in 3rd allow a wide exit to carry momentum.
Turn 3 and 4 the Esses is quicker on the entry than yoiu think but depends on your line courage and the car, you will get quicker here.. its a lift, a dab or a flat on depending on the above then a solid break to 3rd as soon as the car is straight, late turn in to the second part of the corner. accelerate into the bomb hole flat through the balance towards Russell, where the most important thing here is to stay off the curbs and turn in on the brakes in the dry...

Stay off the curbs... again stay off the curbs

Enjoy it you will find someone who is running at your pace race them 2-3 abreast in the corner is not unusual... but allow everyone room..

If someone is comming up on you fast.... let them know early that they have the corner.. and let them go by  otherwise you will be thinking of them in the middle of the corner and thats when you lose it!!!!!!

I am sure that you will get lots of opinion many of it dissagreeing with me, its your call its your race

Have a great race a little jealous that I cant make it this year

General Discussion / Re: The roof of the racer
January 30, 2009, 11:51:50
When I was looking at the re-roofing of our car I looked at the matt finish and ran some tests in a flow chamber..... I could bore you however the effect of drag/downforce co-efficient only cam into play marginally in the draft at snett... otherwise it was actually a negative as appossed to slippery...

There was a legitimate gain to be had on the roofline which is only seen on our old car... this actually adds approc 1.6 mph in the draft and has a slight negative effect on the following car...

Boring yes I can be

Im agree I cannot remembetr a reg, unless it is covered in the rule stating the silhouette cannot be altered for aero gain?????

hi the regs if I remember are as you described for the roll cage..... This was put in as some were only using thin sheet ali as a roll cage top, so the regs were tightened to ensure that no weight could be saved here.

there is another part of the regs which refers to the roof stating that it has to be completly covered in a sheet of ali, I do remember that when we raced at mondello it was common for some cars to run with the canvas "sunroof" blowing in the breeze... but alas no more..

hope this helps but I its been a while since I looked .....

Technical / Wiring up the race car

Excellent bit of info

hi

it looks like the cost of entry for all the races except 24 hour is £1000.. that is merely the hearsay I have understood, but I may be slightly wrong..

work on a £1100 to rent or about £850 phead if in your own car for the 24hours

suit £220  helmet £70 boots £30... then you have travelling and accomodation......

so a season with your own car including the 24 hours looks like being from
£2500   plus the initial £350 for personal kit and the initial £150 to get a licence first time around....

You might be able to do it cheaper but not by much.... also it might be a bit more if you are either unlucky or clumsy at the driving/mechanical breakages....

cars go from £2000-£5000 depending upon spares and how fast/how many wins etc etc

Others may have different numbers so hopefully someone else will give you their expereince...

On balance Motorsport is not free or cheap on any level  but once you have accepted that... these 2cvs will give you all the challenges and fun that any other formula would give  but you exchange outright speed for close racing... it is the only form of racing I have done where 3-4 into a corner is the norm and where 3-4 of you come out the other side again...

have fun  good luck

Races (not 24 hr) / Well done Trevor
July 12, 2007, 09:35:24
Just to add my thoughts and thanks to the officers and members of the club as a whole...

Through out the various years , I have in the back ground had some fun with the 2cv club, not just the 11 24 hours but also the Collier racing journey of trying to build a winning car and engine package... Without the 2cv Club and the challenges that ensued I would not have had that.

I do appreciate that in many ways being on an organising comittee is a thankless job not least for the spokesman or chairman who is always being shot at by someone. So trevor thankyou for your efforts.

AS to the question of pre paying for racing fees etc etc I would be happy to assist the club in arranging a financing package for those fees, which would to some degree alieviate the how do I find £3k question...

I agree with most of the comments above, and apologise that I have been a 24 hour charlie...

I would also, if it was felt I would be of benefit, assist the club in the future.
