General Discussion / Medicals
January 07, 2023, 16:02:03
I have noticed there is a new requirement in the licence renewal process, if you require a medical and fall into the age categories below then you will need a resting ECG as part of the medical:
60
65
70
72
74
75 onwards annually

I don't know how many people this will affect or whether your normal doctor is able to carry this out, and at what cost, so if it affects you best to get it sorted sooner rather than later!

General Discussion / Spa trophies
December 16, 2016, 18:12:00
I have just read the posting on Facebook regarding Spa trophies and am shocked! Why was this put on social media particularly with words like 'idiot' being used. Whilst appreciating the frustration of receiving something damaged, please remember that everything that happens within the club is done by individuals who give of their time & effort to help the club run smoothly. As regards the season's trophies, Richard works out what is required and orders. I then have 5 or 6 very large boxes of trophies arrive at my address where they are sorted and stored all summer in my front room until required. They are then humped to the appropriate meeting (and sometimes brought back again as some members feel they can't find 10 or so minutes for them to be handed out!) If anyone feels they can do better, please step forward. As far as I am aware, The Classic 2CV Racing Club Ltd. has no input into the organizing and running of the Spa 24hr so whilst not wishing to take away the thrill of being presented a trophy at the dinner/dance, strictly speaking they should have been given out privately by the sponsor, surely. Perhaps a little more rant could have been directed at the carrier rather than to people who always try and do their best!

Races (not 24 hr) / Brands Hatch
March 27, 2015, 09:13:51
Just a note for those travelling to Brands Hatch via M25 Dartford Crossing & not aware of the changes. You are no longer able to pay at the toll booths as there is now a numberplate recognisition system in operation and you either have to set up an account, prepay, or pay by midnight the following day. Penalties are high. Full details at www.gov.uk/dart-charge  Also avoid straying into the London low emission zone if your vehicle does not comply as penalties are extremely high.

24h-Race / Thoughts on 24hr race 2010
August 26, 2010, 13:28:30
Congratulations to the Rent Boys - had hoped to be challenging to the line but steering arm problems & a front wheel bearing breaking up put paid to that. Special thanks to Mike Cooper without  whose skill & expertise we would have tumbled even further down the order!

Must mention something that may need clarifying for 2011. About 4hrs in, a fire marshall removed the large extinguisher from outside the garage & hung it up on the wall on the next block stating that on no account must it be used by competitors, who should have brought their own. I did protest to the barc offical patrolling the pit lane but he declined to intervene. This left us with only a small d.i.y. type extinguisher to use. We do not have a dedicated person on fire ext. duty at refuelling pitstops, the exiting driver undertaking this role, so at the next fuel stop he exits the car not knowing about the situation, cursing about the extinguisher not being in position, grabs the one from the wall which triggers the fire marshall into action so we have the extinguisher being wrestled between the two amid threats & foul language whilst the car is being fuelled up behind them! Don't know if this was caught on camera but would make a great comedy moment! The marshall later relented & a sand bucket appeared as well. Exactly what is the situation - all the supplementary regs. state  is that a team member must be adjacent to an extinguisher!  As far as I am aware a compulsary fire drill for teams did not occur this year either.

Finally, some of you may know that Richard & Matthew's grandad passed away during the meeting so many thanks to all who expressed their condolences.

Technical / V2 Sport helmet
August 07, 2010, 22:29:29
Many of you have probably seen the advert in the MSA magazine for the cheap, SnellSA2005 approved V2 helmets.  Just wondering if anyone has one, and are they any good? (The full-face appears on the Snell approved list, but the open-face doesn't, which is slightly concerning!).

Races (not 24 hr) / Racing season
August 28, 2009, 11:26:34
So now it is a 7 month wait for the next racing season to begin , with withdrawal symptoms begining to kick in already. What has happened to the end of season budget non-championship races barc used to organise or in 2007  the Classic Car Racing Club, at Stowe? Perhaps it could be an opportunity to try out the new tyres (or carb) before next season proper!

Finally sat down and am currently writing the latest Snails Pace. It includes the 24hr report, Mallory and Spa.

Its all going well but need help with compiling the team by team report for the 24hr. If any thing interesting happened in your race let me know otherwise i write the report simply based on changes in the time sheets and its not as detailed. Either jot down a reply to this or feel free to give me a ring if you want to talk it through! (07881 701099).

Any Mallory/Spa opinions/comments/photos much appreciated also!

Should have it done by the end of the weekend if lucky, thanks Rich.

General Discussion / Mondello Park
May 27, 2008, 17:18:23
In reponse to Aubrey's call in Snails Pace for ideas for next season, is it possible to visit Ireland for a Championship round, and as the club's finances are "in good shape" perhaps  some subsidy towards the ferry cost could be possible?

Anyone know if a batch of camshafts is likely to be put together for maching before the start of the season?
