Simon sent me an E-mail to post up here as he was (once again?) unable to post from his 'Mac'

So, here goes

Just a quick thank you to you all, With my first race season now finished (see Paul told you) thank you for making me welcome amongst you all, with work commitments it was a shame that I could only manage two out of the four meetings, but I am sure that for you all it was nice to see Mr Sparrow driving my car (thanks again Pete) a little faster than me, sorry to all if I got in your way, I did try and keep an eye out for you faster boys and girls

Thank you to my mechanic Anthony who had No Knowledge at all of 2cv's at the start of the season, and Jon 'Spanners' for standing in for him at Oulton Park and all the stand-in Mechanics that helped during both meetings.
For me 2cv Racing was/is what I want out of racing, A Good Friendly Club, Good Racing, Great Fun and to top it all I have met some really nice genuine people, I look forward to next season, as soon as the dates are in, the cheque will be posted for the full season. See you all at Snetterton, I will be cheering you all on. Thank you all once again Simon

After 12 months of blood, sweat and the proverbial tears-my "budget" racing 2CV is MOTd and on the road.

Having begged, bartered and even spent a few quid, the hard work has finally paid off.

I should say a few thankyous at this point too. Thanks to Derek Coghill for the chassis, rollcage, front arms, seat and a hell of a lot of advice. Thanks also to Simon Crook for exhaust, windows and harness and thanks to Francis Rottenburg and Peter Scatchard for the springs. And of course thanks to everybody on the forum for encouragement and advice by the bucket load!

I'll work out exact cost sometime soon (bear in mind that I haven't built the expensive engine yet)but as it is now, it owes me roughly £400!

Sorry if this has sounded a bit like a Kate Winslet Oscar speech but I had to say thankyou all. 8)

Technical / Windows

I'm almost at the stage of fitting windows in my car and noticed at Silverstone that a few people have fitted the "plastic" windows into the original rubbers. This seems like a nice simple way for me to go-what are peoples opinions please? Pros and cons.....................

Thanks, Jon

For sale / wanted / Free 2CV bodyshell
January 14, 2009, 20:49:56
In my quest to build a racer on a budget (I'm a tight git) I keep on acquiring bloomin' cars!

Consequently I now have a 1989 red 2CV shell that I've had the engine/box, windscreen, bonnet, front wings etc from.

The floors, sills and rear seatbelt mounts are grotty but the rest (windscreen surround, bulkhead, rear lamp panel, boot and rear sweeps) is all pretty good.

It's still on its (rusty!) chassis so is easy to move.

I don't want anything for it just need it gone ASAP!

Any good to anybody as a basis for owt?

Call me on 07956 358451 or e-mail (rather than PM) at [email protected]

Cheers, Jon.

Technical / Springs
July 04, 2008, 06:39:30
Hi all, I'm wondering what rating springs are my best bet on this car I'm building. I do want to be able to use it on the road occasioinally but, assuming it does hit the racetrack one day-what kind of rating am I best off with and where's best to get them please?

Also, when building these things-when it says the bodyshell shouldn't be altered etc etc, does that include such bits as the "hooks" on either side above the 'B' post that the hood clips onto and the bits at the front above the windscreen that the old style external fastening hoods used to fix to?
And, just one more I promise! What about rear seatbelt mounts? Can I get rid of them as they're rotten and I'm working to a real Brummie style tight budget! ;) ???

Thanks y'all. :)

Club Notices / C2CVRC membership
April 05, 2008, 21:27:24
I spoke to Christine at Silverstone about membership and joining the club as an associate member. She said that somewhere on the site I would find the form to download/print to join but I can't find it anywhere!

Am I just being daft? Can anybody provide me with a link to it please so that I can get it filled in and join please?

Cheers, Jon.

Off topic / Looking for help/advice.

Hi, I am a new forum member with a passion for old sheddy 2CVs and a sense of adventure-sort of!

For the last two years I've taken part in a charity banger "rally" (www.scallyrally.co.uk). In 2006 I took a GSA (some of you may remember it being at Snet-I took it on the parade lap) and last year, we took a '69 AZU250 to Rimini and back again (http://groveleyhillbillies.blogspot.com). This year, we've got a fairly (read very) sheddy C plate 2CV that I'm planning on making into a kind of "replica" racing 2cv and wondering if anybody would be able to give me any hints on authenticity etc. I also plan on fitting a rollcage for effect (I don't really plan on rolling it ???)-any ideas from anybody of the cheapest source of one?

I can be e-mailed direct at [email protected]

Thanks very much in advance...........................
