If anyone wants a "light" bit of reading, you can do no better that -

https://motorsportuk.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/2025-NCR_Full.pdf

This is the COMPLETE rewrite of the Blue Book, which WILL be coming in to force for 2025.

I believe you can submit comments to:

[email protected]

I would suggest you do comment.......

The attached proposed amendments to the regulations regarding Track Limits is out for consultation.

I would suggest anyone intending to race from 2023 onwards reads these, and then makes comment to the Race Committee of MSUK by the deadline of 20th February 2023.

If you don't, then these are likely to be passed at the MSUK Board Meeting on 12th April 2023 for immediate implementation

Races (not 24 hr) / Video Resolution
April 27, 2022, 17:35:14
A friendly bit of advice.....

Not even a full F4 race video from ITV is as big as the video files you lot are recording! You do not need 4k 1080 movies......

General Discussion / 2022 Blue Book
December 07, 2021, 15:07:22
The 2022 Blue Book has been made available on the Motorsport UK website Resource Centre pages

As the subject says, it would appear that MSV have had their backsides slapped by the Government.

It would seem that only "essential personnel may attend".

I assume that means as per Motorsport UK competitor sign-on forms, 1 driver and 3 other people per car (who MUST be named on the sign-on sheet)

Races (not 24 hr) / Pre-Season Actions
April 02, 2021, 12:04:04
Please review the BARC requirements in order for you to be able to race. ie:

Photograph / copy of your 2021 licence emailed to David Wheadon prior to your first event.
Online sign-on declaration completed prior to your attendance at all race meetings
On-line scrutineering declaration fully completed and submitted
Compliance with BARC COVID Competitor Guidance

As the title says, Motorsport UK are offering a 25% discount on 2021 Licence renewals. The catch?

You must renew before 31st January 2021, and it is hidden in the small print of Section 5 of the form.

Another catch? If, like me, you renew online, there is no (or at least there wasn't yesterday) option to apply for this discount, so make sure you use the paper form

24h-Race / Helmet Cameras - A Warning!!!
July 25, 2020, 09:26:29
With the 24 Hour Race now 5 weeks away, I want to reinforce the warning regarding HELMET CAMERAS..... Unless they are approved by the FIA, they are illegal for use under regulation K10.3.3d

As a competitor from another championship found out at Croft recently, breaking this regulation entails, at the minimum, disqualification from the race.

In my opinion, as he had submitted a self-declararation that his kit complied with the regs, he should have been reported to the Stewards for further action, and possibly reported to the MSC too.

This is the camera that the competitor was using..... https://store.camboxmeca.com/en/ All scrutineers, and MSUK, have been informed of these. Over the past year both David Wheadon of BARC and myself have asked this company for proof of approval from the FiA, with absolutely no reply. Unlike both Arai and Bell, companies that replied withing a few days.

Just a reminder of the only two helmets currently approved for use with helmet cameras are the Bell HP77 and Bell HP7 Evo III, NO OTHER HELMET IS APPROVED

You have been warned! Please warn our continental friends!

Motorsport UK has just issued an email confirming the suspension of all organising permits and certificates of exemption until 30th April 2020

No motorsport until then at the earliest!!

Look out for confirmation from BARC

Just a quick heads up regarding this race meeting and all others going forward

Two lucky entrants will be selected for alcohol testing from each championship on Saturday morning (and potentially Sunday morning too). The selection will be completely random

The tolerance........ is zero. If you are selected and the testing shows alcohol in your system, you will not be allowed to participate

Please take care!!!!

General Discussion / Helmet Cameras - Beware!!
January 05, 2020, 13:36:45
Afternoon!
Please consider this as a polite "heads up" regarding the use of helmet mounted cameras in motorsport.

There are ever-increasing numbers of videos being posted on various social media channels showing on-track action of circuit action. If these are produced while taking part in a track day, no problem. If they are produced while taking part in a Motorsport UK permitted event, and you are caught using a helmet mounted camera, you will be subject to the penalties available to the organisers.

I am not just talking about "go-pros" etc stuck to your lid (or attached any other way), but also products like the Cambox V3.

The regulations are very clear (both UK and FiA), that UNLESS the camera (or other accessory) is approved by the helmet manufacturer and the current helmet standard, then THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED. The FiA are clear that if an unapproved accessory is fitted, the relevant homologation of the helmet is voided.

At this time, there are only TWO motorsport helmets that are approved by the manufacurers and the FiA for use with helmet cameras. Both of these helmets cost north of £3,200.00, and are from ONE manufacturer. They are also only approved using that manufacturers integrated helmet camera. The Cambox kit IS NOT approved......

What could happen if you use a helmet mounted camera in a UK race event? If it was discovered at scrutineering, the minimum would be the scrutineering tag being removed from your helmet, with the possibility that your helmet would be impounded for the duration of the meeting. If it was discovered after scrutineering and after you have taken part in on track activity? The removal of the scrutineering tag and impounding of the helmet as above, plus anything from a verbal warning to disqualification from the event (or any combination of the penalties available to the officials)

Just seen the board minutes and I wanted to give my views on the two issues above

Firstly, whilst the idea of running the 24 hour race over the August Bank Holiday is appealing from the point of BARC being able to run two meetings, having clerked the previous time this happened I would say its a no go. The issue is from a staffing point of view. Organisation staff would have to be there from Friday afternoon, run night qualifying, then run the 24 Hour race (starting at no later than 12:00 noon), and then run a full meeting from 13:00 on the sunday to Monday curfew to make it viable. Then the volunteers would have to go home and back to their day jobs on the Tuesday. Having done that previously, I would definitely not want to do it again. The exhaustion would be (and was) just too much.

Secondly, radios, as was stated in the minutes are expensive. A club setup from Autotel in in the region of £1,000. Add to that licence costs (which for Spa are around £350), helmet kits (£174.00 from Autotel per driver), ear pieces ( £126.00 for foam or £246 for moulded) and you are north of £2,500 additional costs for one race. And that's assuming none of your drivers have Stilo helmets which have a different comms setup from Peltor style. Yes you can do it cheaper by purchasing second hand radios etc, but you would still need to get hold of a car loom and all the helmet, licence etc.

In my opinion, both these ideas should be non-starters

Just a gentle reminder that drivers who have not raced at the circuit before must attend a New Driver's Briefing before going out to practice...

The first one will be approximately 08:30 on Monday morning

I know how disappointed you all are at not receiving a hard copy of the Blue Book with your licence this year (especially as the renewal price didn't go down), and it appears the Governing Body have listened....

If you require a hard copy, and hold a current competition licence, you can request one by sending an email to:

[email protected]

You need to include your licence number in your email request

General Discussion / Newsletter
February 13, 2019, 13:54:04
Like the newsletter that popped into my in box today

One point, if that is the final artwork that will be used to promote the Mallory meeting, it might be an idea to use a circuit map that actually represents what you will be racing on..... Cars don't use either chicane....

General Discussion / FHR Stickers
February 12, 2018, 16:13:47
Don't forget to have £2.50 in cash available at your first even's scrutineering so that the new FHR sticker can be applied......

Just as the subject says.....

A friendly "heads-up" that the requirement for them to be serviced every 24 months maximum "may" be brought in from the 1st January 2018, not 2019 as stated in the Blue Book.....

General Discussion / 2018 Regulations
February 12, 2018, 12:30:25
They are now published on the BARC website

A mate is looking to sell his brand new, never used transponder. AMB TranX 260, not the new subscription-based ones

These go for upwards of £400 on ebay, and the only way you can now buy a brand new non-subscription  version is to get the multi-driver, endurance version which retails well north of £600

If anyone is interested, get in contact with your offer, and I will pass on the details

Cheers
