Races (not 24 hr) / Brands Hatch April 10-11
March 05, 2021, 06:15:22
I see in facebook discussions taking place with BARC for the April 10-11 racing which is on the schedule but know a few people don't use FB so was wondering as to

1 - do we have regulations agreed and published yet for 2021 by BARC/MSAUK; particularly around 2nd driver and one qualifying session

2 - is Brands 1 or 2 day event. If its 2 day and no camping which the UK roadmap seems to say then that is difficult for most I would think so can it be 1 day please (Saturday gets my vote).

Short notice but the Board are having a meeting Tuesday 14 Sept at 8pm on Zoom. In recent years we have tried to hold a meeting on a race weekend to allow members to participate. There has not been an opportunity to do that this year and therefore if any member can use Zoom and wishes to participate then please message me by 7:30 and I can send you a link.

We will be discussing in detail as to how we hold the AGM later this year, the details for the Mallory race planned for October and a review of this years 24 Hour race among other items.

On a separate note if any member has any technical or sporting proposals then please send those in for consideration, the expected cut off will be 2 weeks after Mallory meeting, the minutes of the meeting tomorrow may change that date.

24h-Race / Provisional Garage List
August 14, 2020, 12:29:47
Please find attached provisional list - all team managers should have had an email from me this week about garages, if not contact me or post your contacts here.

The club obviously appreciates that there are considerable challenges around the Dutch, Belgian and French teams participation so have removed those we know are not coming now.

As a club we discussed over the weekend and agreed this update on Coronavirus and the 2020 racing season.

Sprint racing: If races are cancelled, then we will offer a full refund on the entry paid. For those who have paid the Sprint championship season cost of £ 2100 then this would be ¼ of what has been paid (£ 525) for each of the 4 race weekend's planned.

24 Hour race: For all who have entered the 24 Hour race (29 teams) then we are varying the non-refundable clause on the entry form so that the £ 200 paid is refundable at any time up to 1 May which is when the next payment is due. We will review further during April.

A quick note to say that we are working on the 24 Hour race being at Snetterton 200 on the Bank Holiday weekend August 28/29/30 in 2020, with the race finishing 5pm on the Sunday. This was the preferred date that came from the general meeting at Brands Hatch this year and has now been discussed with BARC and MSV.

Initial meetings have been positive, your Board will update more at the AGM and expect entry details to be all agreed and published by the New Year.

Notice for all members of the Club - 2 June 2019.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support the club and for the teams and drivers who have competed in all the Sprint Race Meetings so far this year. We have been encouraged by the numbers this year and the 30th Anniversary meeting was particularly well attended and the Club put on a great spectacle for the spectators. It was slightly tarnished by the number of incidents which occurred at the end of the meeting, 2CV Racing has always been close and eventful.

The Club's Board is planning to have a short Board meeting on Saturday 22 June at Brands Hatch. We are to open up the meeting to all members to attend and listen in if they wish and at the end of the meeting under 'Any Other Business" we would welcome comments from members by way of an open discussion to help us on:

  • Feedback on the 3 race format we have tried this year
  • Race circuits for 2020, continue with 4 x Sprint meeting and 1 x 24 Hour meeting format?
  • Feedback on driving standards
  • Drivers Rep. Katy Storey stood down from this role last year and we do not have an official Drivers Rep. We would hope to appoint one after the Brands Hatch weekend to act in this role for the club in 2019 and 2020 and looking for someone to do this. They do not have to be a Director of the Club.
  • We have a vacancy for a Director on the Board and are actively looking for at least one new Director. They can be appointed by the Board and then approved at the AGM or simply put forward to be appointed at the AGM.

We are liaising with BARC to hopefully get a reasonable timeslot within the timetable (we have not seen a draft as yet) to do this and it will be held in a meeting room at Brands Hatch. I will update as to the time for the open discussion part of the meeting on the Club forum here and with an email to all members. Its a race meeting that weekend so time will be short and the forum part limited to 30 minutes. We appreciate not everyone will be able to attend if they have car issues on the day but find any of the Directors during the weekend to share a view. Alternatively email the Board email address at the bottom with comments.

The club has an active technical committee and we would prefer that technical matters are directed to that committee and not be part of the meeing on 22 June as would like to focus more on the general club admin and racing from the drivers and spectators perspective. Their email is [email protected].uk

We asked what year those taking up the offer when they first heard of the Club. 1996 and 2006 were barren years but seem to have someone form all the other years!

The 34th running of the Spa 24 Hour takes places October 6 and 7. UK 2V's Club class and European Hybrides can enter here https://www.2cvracing.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/2018-24hr-entry-form_SPA_v2.pdf. The price at £ 2800 may reduce slightly as the club are paying in Euros and exchange rates improving, savings can go towards membership fees for drivers. £ 500 deposit by August 13 for the lower price.

There are plans for Citroen to be involved this year alongside the traditional lap parades by 2CV's that come from across Europe. The grid is expected to be well over 100 cars with the C1's racing as last year. The Belgian C1's expected to be quicker than the UK ones as they run to different regulations.

To get a feeling for the event https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdUA8Ljy210

Drivers need to have National A licences.

General Discussion / Mark Turner
July 26, 2018, 15:37:19
I am sorry to inform everyone that Mark Turner tragically died last week. Mark had raced and provided racing support for many years within the 2CV Racing Club. He was initially involved with Rocket Dog Racing and then progressed to running his own team as Whitwell Motorsports, which included running 3 cars at many UK 2CV events and also running a Euro car at Spa for a few years. His cars had remarkable success within 2CV Racing achieving multiple sprint and 24 Hour wins. Whitwell became a hub of 2CV racing development on the East Riding with a constant stream of ideas and modifications.

Mark was totally committed in his approach to Motorsport but would still find time to help others. I first met him in my first 24 Hour race as he was running a hire car in the same garage we were in. My car had an electrical problem we could not diagnose. Despite having 2 of his own cars in the pits at the same time he came over and within 2 minutes had a solution, and the part we did not have which needed replacing, which was loaned to us and we were back running.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Mark's funeral will be at Octon Crematorium, YO25 3BL at 1.30 pm on Monday August 6, family requests no black clothing. Afterwards at the Stone Trough Inn.

24h-Race / Spa 2CV 24 Hour 2018: October 6-7
March 14, 2018, 18:19:42
24 Hour Spa 2CVC race is October 6-7 October this year

I note the C1's are advertising for entries for the guest C1 24 Hour race which is being run alongside the 2CV 24 Hour at Spa for the 2nd year. They have a limit of 40 cars. Its £ 3500 + £ 50 per driver to race in a C1, see their facebook page.

Classic 2CV Racing Club has a long relationship with 2CVRT, the Belgian Organisers of the 24 Hour race, who are running the 2CV 24 Hour race at Spa for the 34th year and we can bring as many 2CV's as we like. Entry price will be at least 15% lower than for a UK C1 team, we will confirm the final price later in the year once the 2CVRT have finalised the number of 2CV's they are going to bring to the UK 2CV 24 Hour race. No need for a £ 1000 deposit payable on April 1st either. If anyone has not been and wants more details please contact me and I will also post more updates here during the year and in the newsletter.
