General Discussion / Simon Pearson RIP
April 30, 2023, 11:11:20
I'm sorry to have to report the sad loss of our racing friend, Simon Pearson.
Simon left us on the 13th of April 2023. He leave's behind wife Nikki and children Luke, Lucy and Lily.
Simon was 62 years old.
Simon raced a 2cv between 1992 and the late 2000's. He raced with many teams over that period competing in lots of 24hr races and also running his own ECAS liveried car in the championship sprint races and gaining some very good results.
Simon was well known for being a tight arse, most stuff was done a cheap as he could or borrowed. Some of you may remember the year he took his coach to Mondello (with the car in the back), not wanting to pay proper money for his race fuel, he filled the spare tank with petrol bought in the UK. During the race at night, the side of the coach was opened and the fuel was pumped into a jerry can, ready to go in to the car at the next pitstop. Unfortunately, the team member doing this job didn't check the tank properly and 20 litres of diesel went into the car at the next stop..
I'm sure some of you will have plenty of stories relating to racing with him or evenings spent on his coach at various circuits. Please take time to remember them.
Last week I met up Luke, Simons eldest child. The family want to run his race car behind the Hearse at his funeral. I helped Luke get and engine in the car and get it running. We had to repair a 'bit' of panel damage and make a replacement rear wing as that appeared to be missing. Last used in 2005, we got the old girl going and she will be there to see him off.
Below is information taken from his Facebook page about his Funeral.

'The funeral of Simon will take place on Wednesday 3rd May 2023. In accordance with Simon's wishes there will be a church service at St Marys Church, Colton at 1.30pm followed by a committal service at Stafford Crematorium at 3.00pm and a wake (details to be confirmed)
Along with Simon's wishes this will be a celebration of his wonderful life and a man that touched so many hearts.
The dress code is casual - band T-shirts (ideally The Stranglers his favourite band) and jeans. There will be music and celebration just as Simon Pearson wanted.'

I hope to see some of you there.

24h-Race / 24hr race weekend
August 30, 2021, 21:54:58
I just wanted to say thank you to all that had a hand in organising a great event this weekend. Really good to see 30 cars and full garages of people.
I spoke to quite a few people that went to the Citroen Gathering as well as officials, scrutineer's and some of the marshals. All said what a great weekend it is, how good the manners were out on track and the marshals were very pleased with the goodie bags ( 'don't even get this with the touring cars' one told me).
Overall we should be very proud of ourselves.
What was also nice was the promotion from Snetterton (MSV) and BARC as this helped it get round the net. Maybe they are starting to realise what a gem this race is.
Cheers

24h-Race / Live video for the 24hr weekend.
August 25, 2021, 09:39:08
Can someone let me know if there is a link for the live video and timing over the weekend? What time will it be running to from and to? My fan base (my mum) is concerned she might miss something.
It would be good to get some links to the live coverage on social media.
I'm guessing that TSL will do timing.
See you soon

Proposal   Wheels – to allow the inside seam where the inner wheel centre joins the outer wheel rim to be welded.
Adjusted wording for the regulations   5.12.7 The wheels shall be standard production 4J x 15 steel items from the Citroen A series range, or from the Citroen Ami Super. It is permissible to weld the inside seam where the inner wheel centre joins the outer wheel rim.
Notes (for members to consider)   To improve the strength of the wheel, particularly where new wheel's build quality is questioned. In addition, some new pattern wheels come with welded seams as standard so this rule makes there use legal and would clear up any confusion over their use.
Recommended by the Technical Committee   Yes
Passed at AGM?   YES

Can i ask, when is a "standard production 4J x 15 steel items from the Citroen A series range" a pattern part? If pattern part wheels are to be used shouldn't they be approved by the Technical committee and the board at least if not the organising club, being a safety critical part?
I have seen no proposal to allow their use.

As far as I can see even the best quality wheels that ECAS sell are 'Pattern' parts, they are not made by Michelin as originals were, likewise cooling fans, barrels and pistons, exhaust gaskets and a vast amount of parts we fit to our cars are no longer 'genuine or original', mostly pattern. Its a valid point.

Beggars can't be choosers chap.
Being green won't make it any faster, I think this has been proven.
Try red, you might like it.

General Discussion / Josie Dalkin
September 21, 2019, 12:56:11
It is with great sadness that yesterday saw the passing of Josie Dalkin. Josie has spent her hole adult life around Citroen vehicles, she has supported her husband Peter with 2cv racing from 2cv cross right through to 2cv circuit racing both in England, Belgium & France. She was a happy vibrant person who loved her race weekends. The on set of Alzheimer's finally took this lovely lady away from us all (20/09/19)
Our thoughts at this sad time are with Peter & Mark and all the family.

General Discussion / Free panels
September 17, 2019, 19:04:12
Hello all
I have collected quite a few reasonable panels for 2cv's over the last couple of years. They aren't perfect but they are free to the collector. Let me know what you need and I'll see what i've got.

I have another folder here which I did as a hand round to potential sponsors, needless to say I got bugger all. The best bit is that because my writing is so poor I typed it. It took ages.
I'm sure the data we need is there. I can still name most of the people in the video that turned up from that first race on YouTube. I need a new hobby.
I will try and sort it out and scan it.
I still have my helmet and my race overalls from that first race.
