24h-Race / Re: Thank You

May I just add my sincere appreciation to all concerned within the Club for a brilliant weekend's racing, as always, which was really enjoyed by those of us involved on the sidelines as marshals or officials.

In addition I would like to thank the 2cv Racing Club for the goodies kindly supplied to the marshals during the meeting which were greatly appreciated by those present.

Special thanks too for the very generous collection of £324.33, made during the post event BBQ for the Marshals, which has kindly been passed to me by Gary & Jill (Tyrrells). This will be be forwarded to the Chief Marshal for the benefit of the Snetterton Marshals.

Once again, many thanks for the most enjoyable 24hrs of the year!

Hi Catherine

As a member of "Team Safety Car" throughout the 24hrs I can confirm that we we could have been much higher up the timing board as the drivers I had along side me were definately keen to get many more laps in.

However there was one major problem that caused us to be as far behind as we were on the lap count - that is the extremely high driving standards that all the 2cv drivers demontrated thoughout the race and especially during the early Sunday morning heavy rain spell, combined with the lack of on circuit breakdowns - this being a testimonial to the quality of preparation by everyone involved!

During the Sunday 10am to 2pm period the BMW became known as the "World's most expensive sun lounger!" by certain members of the startline crew.

Indeed I think it must be a record for the least number of safety car periods since the race has been held at Snet.

I would also like to thank all the drivers for their assistance and co-operation during the actual Safety Car periods and any subsequent wave pasts! If only drivers in some other championships were as good as you guys and girls when under Safety Car conditions.

Looking forward to seeing you all go past us in the pit lane again next year!!

Best wishes,

Terry

Well guys and girls, there's (for once!!) not a lot else I can add -the team are expressing themselves extremely well without any assistance!! Just have a few minutes to have a look at the Marshals pages on the Main site to view the comments I have received over the past few days since the race.  I think the message / secret is starting to spread across the Country!!

I think by now you all know my feelings about the 24hr event, the Classic 2cv Racing Club and above all each and every one of you that makes the Club such a brilliant one for the Marshalling teams to be associated with! It's just amazing how the enthusiasm that you have rubs off on everyone involved in the meeting - for the marshals out on the bank - the safety car team, recovery and rescue/medical teams and the Clerks and Radio/admin team in Race Control.

This is what makes the event work so well every year and it just keeps getting better and better.

Sorry I didn't have chance to personally thank each of you Sunday night (was too busy watching Kevin and John's antics!!) but you are the true stars of British Club racing and a shining example to all other classes involved in British Motorsport on how to race so competitively, so cleanly whilst helping each other in such a totally sporting and unselfish manner. Oh, and ensuring everyone has plenty of fun thrown in for good measure!!!

Best wishes,

Terry
PS - Thanks Chris for all your help with the Marshals pages - it is appreciated!
PPS  30hrs - piece of cake! (well ok for the Marshals!!)

I think there is power in all of the paddock but not sure.  There's nothing to stop you parking in the back of the pit area apart from limited space - and it's noisier obviously!

Simon, as far as I'm aware the only mains power supplies are within the pit garages, pretty sure that there are no power supply points elsewhere in the paddock area for hookups. The other option perhaps if you have a generator is to park on the marshals camping area just before Tyrrells behind the paddock, if you get there early enough you can park close the entrance just behind the paddock and close to the water supply! It's normally a bit quieter there.

But if you want to be close to the action and benefit from a power supply parking up behind the pit garages would be the best option.

Hi Roderik,

Suggest you give the circuit a ring on +44 (0)1953 887303 and speak with Jamie (the circuit manager). Explain the situation - the circuit staff are very friendly and understanding and I am sure that they will do everything possible to assist you.

No martin ,you were supposed to have one either in the top corner of the rear screen or on the back panel to my recollection.Last year it was requested that we had full size numbers on the bootlid (so the marshals can identify the cars from behind ) which we talked ourselves out of.It may well be that we may have to do something about it this year though.
Paul

Hi Paul,

Sorry just catching up with this one and as Martin and Trevor quite correctly state the requirement in the Blue Book for Night racing is quite clear, however in past years it has not been enforced as such but I know that we have tried to encourage teams to provide full size numbers on a white (ideally reflective) backgound for three main reasons.

The first being to assist with identification of cars by marshals generally during the night section of the race, which in some incidents may be some distance from the nearest post.

Secondly, from my experience as Clerk normally involved in the 24hr (and in previous years an Observer out on the circuit), should we need to scramble the safety car at anytime, day or night, but more importantly during the night we will contact the Observer /Post Chiefs on Coram and Russell and ask them to inform us when the leading car passes their posts so that we can get the Safety Car onto the track between Senna & Riches in order to pick up the leader with the minimum number of other cars between the safety car and the leader.

This can only work if the Observer/ Post Chiefs can see the numbers of the passing cars clearly. In the hours of darkness for an observer to be looking at the oncoming cars with headlights ablaze and perhaps (with due respect) poorly lit side numbers and with the cars possibly being in a bunch of traffic it is not always possible for them to identify the numbers of the car we need to pick up quickly.

However if as has been suggested in the past that all cars had a white (reflective) background on the Left Hand Rear of the car with ideally regulation sized numbers the observers would be able to more clearly identify the numbers as the cars are exiting Coram and also Russell with the numbers being illuminated by the lights from the following cars. This would certainly help us avoid situations where we miss picking the leaders up correctly.

The third reason for the request was one of safety - should a car stop out on the circuit for whatever reason without lights or should a car have a failure of it's rear lights (does this happen??) the fact that there is a white (reflective) backgound again, that would be picked up by the lights of any approaching cars, will provide additional visability to drivers of the potential problem, perhaps stationary, vehicle on track.

By asking for the white background to be reflective we would avoid the need for any additional fixed illumination and wiring as I appreciate we need to avoid any unnecessary expense and work for competitors for this once a year event.

I hope this clarifies the logic for the request for rear numbers for this event. Any assistance teams can provide regarding this would be greatly appreciated by the team in Race Control.

I would like to express to all the members of the Classic 2CV Racing Club, on behalf of all the Snetterton marshalling team, our sincere appreciation for the money collected at the post event BBQ after the 24hr meeting.

This amounted to a fantastic sum of £350 and really is a suberb gesture by the Club's members. Thank you all so much.

I will ensure that it will used in the most appropriate manner, for benefit of the Snetterton Marshals as I know that was the intention of the Club.

Once again, thank you for your fantastic support of the team in Orange!

And from the team in Race Control I would also like to add my personal thanks to everyone who contributed to creating a fantastic weekend;

To all the members of 2cv Racing Club, drivers, teams, families -
you all make it such a unique and brilliant event, the positive enthusiasm of everyone involved makes it work so well - both on the track and behind the scenes. Thanks to Steve, Simon, Paul, Peter and everyone within the club for providing the goodie bags, the tea's and coffee's etc for the marshals rest area and for providing the BBQ at Tyrrell's at the end of the event. All of which was greatly appreciated.

To Jamie, Debbie, Gary and all the Snet MSV Circuit and Tyrrell's staff for going that extra mile throughout the weekend; the use of the Media Centre for the marshals rest area really was appreciated by the marshalling teams, thank you, as was all the help given to us in Race Control throughout the event.

Thanks also to Peter Harding for sorting the rota's, driving the minibus and manning the phones! To Mike Whitney for being Chief Marshal and Safety Car Observer.

Also the Caterham Safety Car Driving Team (don't think they've ever gone so slow!) and to Chris and Mike for spending so much time in the passenger seat! Richard thanks for organising them!

Alex and the Red Rocket Recovery Team - Excellent teamwork and speedy recoveries as always - thanks guys.

Tony, Dave, Grant, John,Jim & Richard, plus the sound of Race Control-Dawn and Sandra - thanks for not letting me sleep throughout the weekend!!  Thanks also to the BARC HQ team for all their dedication in Race Admin and keeping us upstairs under control!

And above all to the marshalling and rescue teams for brilliant teamwork and for being so willing and flexible throughout the weekend enabling the shifts to work. It was great to have the chance to meet up with many of the marshals during the off periods-hope you all enjoyed yourselves and we hope to see you next year. Don't forget to tell others and drag them along too!

See you all next year!

Paul,

On behalf of the Snetterton marshalling team thank you to the 2cv Club once again for this very kind gesture which is greatly appreciated by the team.

As you are all aware all the marshals involved always look forward to this meeting and that is because of the entertainment that all the teams and competitors provide on the circuit and the spirit of teamwork with the marshals and officials off track.

Best wishes and role on August. (well hopefully no rolls on the circuit!!)

Races (not 24 hr) / Respect from a Marshal
April 25, 2007, 08:48:25
Alan,

As Trevor stated you would certainly be made welcome by all the Marshals at Snetterton and the 2CV people if you could assist with the 24hr meeting. This is a unique event, with a totally friendly atmosphere. Do it once and you will be there year after year!!

Details of the programme are now available via;    www.barc.net/competitors/race_timetables/hq0714-03.php and
www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96026

If you should need any further information about marshalling at Snetterton for this or any other event please contact me via e-mail at [email protected]

For anyone that may be interested there is a thread with the aim of promoting the 2007 event amongst the marshalling community on 10 tenths, which can be found by clicking on the following link;

http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91265

I am promoting the meeting earlier this year, before all the other clubs send out their availability forms, with the intent of gaining additional numbers to assist and join in the fun before they commit elsewhere over the race weekend.

It's also extremely encouraging to see the positive nature of the various posts which is a credit to the atmosphere that the 2cv Racing Club members work so hard to create and certainly makes it a lot easier to obtain the numbers of marshals & officials we need to run the event.

Club Notices / NEW WEBSITE BEING LAUNCHED
December 04, 2006, 20:32:30
Great news Pete, many thanks to all concerned in putting the new site together, which I am sure will be welcomed by everyone both within the club and those others who may be thinking about becoming a competitor or wish to marshal or just want to spectate and keep up with the news.

The existing site is possibly one of the best in the sport as it is so I am sure Dick and Yvette will do you proud!
