Races (not 24 hr) / Cadwell Park Timetable
April 19, 2024, 18:01:40
You may have noticed that we are the second to last race on Sunday. We all know that it is likely that our second race will be cut short as usual. I pointed out to the BARC yesterday that 2 championships (Superkart and Junior Saloon) will have had their 3rd race before our second race, along with 2 others. On the basis that the last few races have been cut short for at least the last 2 years I did not believe it was fair that this was how the timetable had been arranged. Their reply included;

Prior to issuing we always send it to all Championships attending for their comment.  The Cadwell timetable went through 4 draft iterations before being published, each was sent to the 2CV Racing Club for their comment.

This suggested that the timetable was sent to the club for any comments and I can only assume none concerning this issue were made. I expect that had such a concern have been raised initially then this may have been taken into account and any appropriate adjustments made. I don't know if anyone who receives this information is aware that we can make comments and suggestions to amend the timetable, and maybe something was said but I just don't know.

Races (not 24 hr) / Race Dates and venues
February 02, 2023, 13:18:07
Why are we being asked now what we want to do after a decision has already been made by the board to cancel Anglesey and after the calendar has been apparently agreed and finalised? It seems as though we are just choosing if the Enduro is a championship round or not. My understanding from the AGM was that the board were directed to find an alternative for Anglesey and the full circuit at Oulton. I can understand that we can't choose the circuit layout which suits the majority of other cars but in the absence of any other solution from the BARC, such as more time, we should have been consulted before the calendar was finalised concerning Anglesey or Pembrey. If two 20 minute races cost around £80 more than two 15 minute races, I don't know if the additional cost would put people off as I don't think the overall cost is really ever mentioned as an issue. If we are simply happy to pay more for longer races at longer circuits (or ones further away) then should we just not ask how much this would be? It appears that alienating the BARC by these actions may make running the club financially more difficult from now onwards. I don't know when the initial discussions take place about circuits and dates but can't we all be involved a litter earlier in the process rather than waiting until the AGM with a fait accompli.

Races (not 24 hr) / Silverstone
May 09, 2022, 18:24:22
We were asked to vote on a proposal to hold the Silverstone event on Sunday only. I rejected the idea for several reasons but mainly because doing one double qualifying and 2 races all in one day makes if difficult for people suffering reliability problems or accident damage sufficient time to fix their cars. I am sure we would all prefer to allow everyone to take part in each event. At Brands Hatch I believe we had to complete 2 separate qualifying sessions and 2 races in one day which was too much as I felt like I had no time to do anything meaningful between sessions.

Separately you may also wish to consider that usually if we are only competing on a Sunday then we don't get allocated any space in the Paddock on Saturday until maybe after 6.30pm once another racing group has left and if the Cadwell rules had been followed we would not have actually been allowed in at all until after 7pm on Friday evening.

I could in addition raise the point that the entry form specifically indicates that the qualifying and racing will be split over 2 days which could could make the difference between someone attending or not. If it had only been only Sunday at Pembrey at the beginning of the season would everyone have still been interested in entering the race for one day with most likely a much later finish time? If in general we all prefer 2 day race weekends can we please agree this at the AGM and make sure that BARC are aware that we don't wish to change the option without 100% agreement from all entered competitors at the point of asking, not just simply a majority.

Can someone please let us know if the club was still charged £350 for the failed attempt at an onboard live stream. I don't believe this represents good value at all especially if any car chosen could possibly not complete the race. Anyone with their own in car video can put this on you tube themselves for the world to see and the club to promote if it wished to at no cost. With advanced warning can we all not have some more say in these decisions where club funds are expended or maybe an agreed promotion budget at the AGM which can not be exceeded without a majority agreement.
As the event cost around £800 this would be around £35 per car and based on the limited coverage I have actually managed to watch so far of the first race I can not say that it represented any sort of fair value to all the competitors. Maybe if you were in the leading group or the last group you would be happy but there must be plenty of us who had almost no coverage. The second race, which I have not seen at at all yet, may be better because I complained directly and asked that equal coverage should be given to each car as we were all effectively paying the same and I know that some of those who watched from home were very disappointed by the coverage and its fixation on the leaders even extending to their slowing down lap while most of us were still racing.

Yes, count me in.

More thought should have gone into this idea to ask who wanted to be next to who as many of us race together.

I think your list needs updating with all the changes or we will have to just go back to a free for all, which has worked up to now.

General Discussion / Jon Davis

I only this evening heard about Jon and was with him at Spa this year.
I remember racing against him at Thruxton in my first full season in 2003 in a hard but fair race for many laps.

Katy,

There is not an area 'behind the classic touring cars' the only areas of the overflow paddocks are either behind the CNC Heads sports & saloons or behind the caterhams.

I can't see any other plan of the paddock attached to the message you received to which it referred.

So where is the plan?
Overflow above the Caterhams looks the best place to me rather than as far away as possible from the facilities.

General Discussion / Re: Spa trophies
December 22, 2016, 10:04:20
Nigel,

With respect there is no point in having a private rant which nobody can see, or the point will be missed. Clearly you would have been a better choice to choose a more appropriate box with some associated packaging for protection against the postal services which everyone will know not to trust with the words fragile. I think they would also suggest that something must be adequately packaged.

I purposely did not single anyone out for the catalogue of errors which ultimately stemmed from the inappropriate level of trust I gave to the 'officers of the company'. The term used was 'idiot proof' which I am would hope people are not obtuse enough to misunderstand.

While I appreciated Matt's help with returning the trophy, it really should never have got to that stage as an appropriate level of care and guidance was provided  for any reasonable person to expect that the trophy would have been given to the correct person and failing that any reasonable enquiry from any number of people in the room would have swiftly corrected the mistake rather than compounding it.

As you have questioned the validity of my complaint and suggested that people always try their best on behalf of the company, I would again have to say with the greatest respect that I have been unable to find anyone who believes that the trophy would ever fit into the box without the top having to be broken off in order to be able to close it and I would welcome any challenge to do so. If no other box or packaging had been available then if nothing else, the base could have been unscrewed from the trophy first.

If anyone wants to comment on social media, the forum or privately I have absolutely no problem with it. I however consider the matter closed but will comment whenever and wherever I feel is appropriate.

General Discussion / Citroen C1

Well that's at least half an hour of my life I won't be getting back reading all 7 pages.

Its the Classic 2CV Racing Club and any others by invitation only in just the 24h race. The C1 has no place racing with us and the majority of the members would support this view I believe.

If you two want to race C1's then here is not the place.

No tickets, no garages, last race on Sunday.
It's not just any racing club, it's a BARC racing club!

I will be amazed then if you get a quorum by 1.30pm then or the AGM will be the following week.
