24h-Race / Re: 2015 24Hr

There had better be a race because I need a(nother) excuse to go to Anglesey in the summer and I really need to get a new motorsport photography portfolio before my stagnant "career" dries up completely.😛

Races (not 24 hr) / Re: oulton park meeting
March 30, 2015, 13:02:01
Blimey!! :o :o

I am so glad that everybody escaped with only severe bruising. Cars can be replaced; humans can't.

Thanks for the photos & videos posted so far; I couldn't make it to the race meeting and I was horrified when I received a message asking what had happened & why did the 2CV race need the Air Ambulance. Needless to say I feared the worst.

It is interesting to see the damage sustained to the various cars involved. I am shocked by the damage to Nick's car.

Hi folks

Here's the link to my photographs from this year's race.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/rocky-road/sets/72157647139208126/

Also included in the set are: the track parade, Blackbeard's Tea Party and my whizz up to Holyhead Mountain to coo over the gorse and heather out together (something I've never seen before and Ma had only seen it once in her life before Sunday - and she lived next to the mountain for many years!).

If anybody wants to buy any of the unwatermarked hi-res pictures, please email me via this forum or [email protected] - the fee is only £4 per picture.  I'm currently unemployed which is why I am reluctantly charging this year; I do feel bad about it but I have to be realistic.

On the subject of lighting could I suggest (politely) that as many cars as possible light up their numbers at night?  The mini 77 did it in style and it was so useful.

24h-Race / Re: FEEDBACK on Anglesey

From a spectator/media point of view I found it a great weekend.

However, chairs in the media centre would be nice.  Having to stand up to copy photographs, back them up and get things recharged was annoying.  My mother was also griping that the cafe didn't sell cereal.  Mind you, if that's the worst of the criticism then I think we can assume that all went well.

I didn't try the showers but the toilets were always clean and tidy and well-stocked.  It was nice to be in a more "compact" circuit where everything is nearby.  I hope some of you got to take a stroll around the outside of the circuit because the views were stunning.

Thanks to you lot you have 4 more 2CV fans: my cousin, her husband and 2 little boys came along and immediately fell in love with 2CVs and the racing. ;D

P.S. If anybody falls in love with Anglesey over the next few days, I can recommend some very good hotels, self-catering, B&Bs and campsites too (some tested by me in the past).

And there I was thinking that a quick squirt of Febreeze (other air fresheners are available) would do the job.:)

See you tomorrow folks (briefly) and then I'll be around from lunchtime on Friday to get in the way see you all.

You have made my day by booking BLACKBEARD'S TEA PARTY for Friday night.

From personal experience of their live show I can vouch for their talent and energy. This is folk as you've never heard it before. The videos on YouTube aren't great unless you find the recent ones from Cropredy this year - where I saw them.

Change of plan: we've got The Anchorage on Thursday and Sunday nights.  Couldn't get the family room in The Valley on either date.

I should add that there is a large Tesco's Superstore on the outskirts of Holyhead if you need to purchase food/bits and pieces over the weekend as well.

Hi folks

I know that some of you will be arriving before Thursday lunchtime and leaving after Monday lunchtime and may be needing somewhere to stay or to eat.  Here are some recommendations based on my knowledge of the area and with a huge amount of help from my cousin Alix who lives in Valley.

If you do need accommodation for the Wednesday/Thursday or Monday then do book it as soon as possible as it will fill up.

ACCOMMODATION
My best recommendation is The Valley Hotel in Valley.  http://www.valley-hotel-anglesey.co.uk/  This is where we are expecting to stay on Thursday and Monday nights.  It is a nice hotel and I've used it many times in the past.  There is car parking too.  It is right on the Valley crossroads so it's incredibly easy to find.

If The Valley is full, then there is The Anchorage in Four Mile Bridge (a bit further afield): http://trearddurbay.com/the-anchorage-hotel/  My aunt and both my cousins on Anglesey used to work there so they recommend it above the others.  It is further to drive and it is more expensive than The Valley.  It does have car parking and an annex.  Having said that, it is incredibly comfy.

The Bull Hotel in Valley doesn't have a website but its address is London Rd, Valley, Holyhead, Gwynedd LL65 3DP
01407 740351.  I've not been in there for years – even for a drink – so I can't comment on it.

There is a Premier Inn now in Holyhead.  It does not serve food but McDonalds is next door.

FOOD

There is a Fish and Chip shop in Rhosneigr.
The following take-aways are available in Valley: Thai, Indian and Chinese.  The Thai restaurant does not do outside delivery but my cousin is going to speak to the other 2 places.
There is also a Subway in Valley now with pretty good opening hours.

There is an Indian Restaurant/take-away in RAF Valley itself.

If you want something really nice but not overpriced then my cousin Alix recommends The Beach Hut at Newry in Holyhead.  Apparently the breakfast there is incredibly good but not expensive; she went there this morning and says that it is regularly used by Holyhead locals as well.

Alix is going to get me the menus of all of the takeaways/restaurants mentioned above and either scan & email them to me or post them to me so I can scan them and put them on here for you.

Hello
Thank you for the information.  Can I be cheeky and ask if that extends to the media (e.g. me) too?

24h-Race / Re: Camping at Anglesey

What about those of us who are spectators or media?  Where can we camp?  Also, when do we have to vacate the Circuit?  Sunday afternoon or Monday morning?

Which reminds me: if they do boot everyone out on Sunday afternoon after the race, there are a lot of good hotels and B&Bs on Anglesey.

General Discussion / Re: 2014 fixture list

I think I can help Greg and his family. I have family living on Anglesey (spent a lot of my own childhood there) and I've spoken with them about specialist accommodation near the circuit. I will contact Greg privately.
