We have 5 wristbands available per day. I've had 2 per day sent to me and the rest will be ready to pick up from the venue so it's probably best if Chris or I meet whoever's coming and get them admitted, certainly on the Friday and Sunday. One or both of us will most likely end up there Saturday too.

Events (Non-Racing) / Skid pan session
January 13, 2018, 19:23:39
A bit over a year ago I had a skid pan session at Rockingham as a birthday pressie. It was hastily set up and ended up being with a few young people and geared up more towards road safety, but the instructor said if we got a group of racers together they'd do a session tailored to us with empahsis on handling, weight transfer etc. Would anyone be up for it? I would think road or race car would be OK, although they may want a passenger seat for instructors. Drop me a message or reply here and let me know if you're keen and if there's enough interest I'll get in touch with them and see if we can organise something before the season starts.

Shocking and very sad news. I'd never had a chance to get to know him until Spa this year but he seemed like a thoroughly nice bloke.

On a lighter note, I'd like to thank everyone from the four ECAS drivers. Paul, Fred, Phil & myself had an absolutely fantastic weekend! We had no idea what to expect - Fred has raced karts & single seaters, Phil raced tin tops 25+ years ago and while Paul has worked on the engineering side he, like me, had never actually done a race.

What we experienced was the best weekend's motorsport any of us has ever had.

Camaraderie, advice, banter, helping hands, competition. Just mega. We all loved driving the car too; its a real challenge to nail a 'perfect' lap and the racing was brilliant. Massive thank you to the Team Gadget caterers too, you girls made the weekend.

Really hope to return, although I think we used up all our luck this year!

Very glad you enjoyed it! What you've written pretty much sums up what makes the race great. The cars are fun (and not easy!) to drive, the racing is close and the paddock inhabitants are the nicest bunch of guys you could hope to be trapped at a circuit with for a weekend!

I believe he lost an arm to lightning in a storm. I'm gutted too. The Scary Tree is as iconic to Snetterton as the Lodge is to Oulton Park.

Races (not 24 hr) / Re: Brands write up.

In reply to the first point, both races got an admittedly brief write-up in the main report from the Brands race day a few pages later.

It was also really nice to see a group of road car owners turn up to support us, something which is worth encouraging. We also had a lot of positive comments on tbe club Facebook page posts during the event with a few people saying that it was the first time they'd seen 2CVs race and how much they'd enjoyed it.

Is there a BBQ planned? The club gazebo will be coming in any case but need to know how much to fill the caravan fridge with and optimal beer:meat ratio.

The Caterham drivers aren't exactly best pleased either:

Thanks for checking up on their injured driver. It's never good to see the air ambulance and such a long delay. Hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Congratulations to everyone involved in some of the best racing I've ever seen, especially the second sprint race. Watching that from the infield spectator area was just spectacular and speaking to the marshals on the post next to me it was clear they were enjoying it too, commenting that our cars might not be the quickest but they certainly are the best to watch. It's great to see so many colourful, well presented cars fighting wheel to wheel all the way through the field from lights to flag. You couldn't ask for a better advert for 2CV racing.
Thanks also to Wayne and everyone involved in the club BBQ. This club is as much about what happens off track as on it and having the chance to bring everyone together at race weekends, especially over some proper tasty decent food, is great.

"Having been plucked from obscurity as an odd job man when he was spotted at the local gym, Ash Carter now tours under the stage name Lady Ashley with the Yorkshire Ladyboys..."

That close enough?

*GROWL*

Honestly, the original article and subsequent rehashes of the whole "The 2CV is getting too old/expensive/unreliable/difficult" has done an immense damage to 2CV racing.
The only way to counter this is for EVERYONE who can to bring out their cars on whatever budget they can scrape together and put on a great show of fabulous close racing and unmatched cameraderie as always and show the world the current message going out is utter twaddle.

I definitely remember being told that we left Snetterton because of a large hike up in the cost of hiring the circuit and we would never be able to return because this had become increasingly prohibitive. This now seems not to be the case with ' deals done '  and mention of  ' 3 years ' ?  & lower costs. Presumably there always was the option of other series running over the weekend.
Whilst not averse to returning to Norfolk, I am puzzled by what has changed so dramatically and can only draw the following conclusions :-
   a) Jonathan Palmer is struggling
   b) The entry fee WILL be increased
   c) 2CV Entries are dramatically up
   d) C1's have mated

Anglesey was initially cheaper than Snetterton could offer to tempt us away, however their prices haven't stayed low and this, coupled with the fact that tempting other series to Anglesey to share costs didn't work so well whereas Snetterton is more attractive makes the cost of Snetterton viable, ESPECIALLY if people make an effort to support the race and get their cars out!

Sorry, this may soon a bit out of place but; if its been sucessfully done for 25 year why do you need the minis, hybrids and C1s? Surely if it was truly successful you'd still have a full grid of 2cvs and only 2cvs?

(Prepared to receive the Ban-hammer for that one)

It's a very good point, and you have every right to point it out. As I've said in my previous post, this year was a particularly low point for various reasons, but we're working on better things for next year. Minis at least have classic appeal, similar tech level and similar performance and haven't entered in huge numbers. The C1 was a last-minute decision when things were looking a lot bleaker than they actually ended up being.

QuoteIn the medium to short term while everyone promotes 2cv racing and the challenges involved in it and tries bring more people in, get more cars out of garages and back on the grid, I think you might need to view C1s as a 'necessary evil'  (I mean its not like I'm asking you to accept an Aygo!!) so that there is a year 26 and a year 27  and so on

See above. It was a necessary evil for this year, but what we don't want is for it to open the floodgates for lots of cars which then outnumber and render our own obsolete.
