Am I the only one who watched the tv programme about chef James Martin's assault on the Mille Miglia? His one-of-three-made £600,000 Maserati died 120 miles in with a broken valve - this after a VERY expensive engine rebuild and as at least one of the three cars had done when first raced in 1948. With valve credentials like that - and he's a total petrolhead - maybe we can get him on board! If nothing else he might fancy the 24 hour as a lower-budget option next year . . .

David - excellent idea. Do you know how to get in contact with him?

Some days, it's REALLY difficult being me!

I saw him in his Maserati in the Mille Miglia programme the other night.

I'd be happy to approach his management people on behalf of the club, but, how can I put this rather tactfully; would any self-respecting 24hr team really want him in their driver line-up? He pretended he was a racing driver in what looked more like a funeral procession.

Now, his lady co-driver, that's quite a different matter!

he got a long way in that.  120 miles and blew a valve.  maybe he should have oured his 800,000 pound in to 2cv racing!!!

<He pretended he was a racing driver>

Works for me.....

Anyway, by the end of the 24hr he might not have to pretend any more?

I drove for many years with W.Mitty printed on the side of my helmet, until I couldn't afford the paint job any more. Sort of said it all for many of us, I suspect...
