As this will be my first 24hr race - please let me have some of your wisdom

Insurance for the car - where/who from

How do you split the the driving time - 4 x drivers (6 hours each) - an hour each at the start so everyone gets into it? two hours then change

What is the average that 'pay to drive' drivers pay

Has anyone got actual costs - fuel etc, inc testing anything else

Hi Simon, I've never insured the car so don't know about that (Competition Car Insurance might be a good starting point as I've used them for road insurance) - we've always had a kind of gentleman's agreement that if you severely damage it then you pay for repairs; dents and small bumps don't really count (racing incidents, if you like).

We split the costs equally between the drivers, and have applied the same to pay drivers.....although this may not apply to less socialist organisations.....

Split the time as evenly as you can, if you're charging the same per person; through the race, some people may change their minds about what they have to do and then it's up to them if they want to accept less or are happy to take up the slack. Start off with 2hr stints and take it from there.

Fuel costs; assume 2hr gaps between pit stops and apply racetrack price rates! We did manage 3 hrs per tank one year, but better economy means less speed generally.

Testing - I once went to an Alfa trackday (on a bike airfield circuit) to find out if the car was ok. It wasn't, but I overtook a fair number of Alfas so was happy.....no idea as to proper costs.

I'm sure nick roads will be putting something together about this but for the time being.
We have never insured either simon.
Premium £300, excess PER INCIDENT £500
We split the entry between the non car owner drivers and the rest of the costs 4 ways including putting the car back to the condition it was in before the race and the engine/s overhaul/s .
Testing is included in the entry fee fuel around the £300/£350 mark
A drive should be in my opinion between £1200 and £2000 depending on package/competitiveness of the car.
When the fuel guage says empty,stop refuel, change driver.In our team the fastest get the most time (incentive to drive fast)although i do try to make it as equal as possible.

just want it to be fair and value for money for the Pay to Drives and not out of pocket, its tough enough this season as it is!

Another little question, As only a spectator last year, and we parked the motorhome a little further along the paddock - how much allocated parking space do we get outside the garage, just thinking about our Translux Motorhome/crew eating tent etc. etc.
