Why be surprised when the monstrous Clarkson clearly believes he has metamorphosed into a petrol-head stand-up who can rubbish any car and destroy its market (the little Alfa) and rubbish people too (men with beards, the chap from Birmingham). His fellow-presenters apparently think he's funny, no doubt because they value their TV break, and the captive audience at least pretends to. Apart from them who could possibly raise a smile at the unbelievably feeble Masters Of The Universe track test? An eyebrow perhaps at this travesty of telly entertainment conceived no doubt over a pint or six in the BBC canteen or more likely the ninth round of ports in the snooker room at Clarkson's Gloucestershire palace. Forget the failing ailing BBC. What about trying to get Channel 4 interested in a fly-on-the-wall documentary about next year's race from planning to completion? Cheap, relatively, for them, more in-depth coverage than the superficial ho-ho feature considered no doubt by the BBC and wholly in-line with the current fashion for reality TV. How good it would be to tell Top Gear in general and Clarkson in particular to bugger off...
