This situation was entirely predictable and I suggested back in Nov/Dec that a reservation deposit should be applied so that the event could be properly managed with a better knowledge of actual numbers committed to race. This was not implemented so we have our current situation. We should be sitting with a non returnable deposit that has been paid by all the people who have withdrawn. This would not solve lack of entries but it would highlight the situation at a much earlier stage.
I think it would be a bad idea for the long term stability to allow the creation of two classes this will be the thin end of the wedge, anyone running in this years invitation class would undoubtably expect to have the same arrangements next year and obviously it could increase numbers in the sprint championship as well if this same facility was offered.
There is clearly a problem with the number of active competitors, which must be addressed, but to allow cars to run to old regulations is not the answer.
