Wow Malcolm....too much honor there but very much appreciated!  It was great having you guys as a neighbor, both on the circuit as well in the pit!  It was a very nice battle in the final 2 stints indeed  and congrats with your great 4th position!

24h-Race / Big Dutch tnx!
August 28, 2012, 11:07:54
Hi all,

I hereby want to thank all British teams, friends, organization and marshals for feeling very welcome at Snetterton again. And especially team Gadget for their help, fun and sharing the pitbox with us! We had the best weekend we could ever imagine and are also very proud on our 3rd place result....who could have thought that!  Not sure if we can find the time and money again to compete in future 24 hour races, but we will come back to Snetterton for sure!

Greetings and much respect from the Flying Dutchmen!

Arno, Roderik, Niels and Kars

Ps.  Part of our strategy was providing a hugh amount of laughs and beer to our competitors.....sorry to  all who had too much of a hangover or lack of sleep :)

24h-Race / Re: Spa 24hr
October 24, 2010, 09:55:08
Great job Phil and team..we enjoyed watching your team!
We were using a modified jerry indeed (see pics). Works very fine and good addition for UK 24hr improvement!

We were racing UK specs at Spa again and we needed a 2 hour discussion with the new (BRAC) organization to start. We entered via the Classic class and raced in the Amelioree class. A lot of mods are required at Spa for UK racers. We have filled up the fuel tank with a sponge and added 2 extra extinguisher points. We didn't install the expensive fuel system and we didn't make all (discussable) cage mods. From next year you need a lot of mods on your cage e.g. a bar through the chassis connected to the cage. Extra cage on the rear to protect the fuel tank, etc...  So I think driving in both competitions probably results in making 2 racers as the differences are getting to big. Maybe you can make modified agreements as UK organization?

Nevertheless, UK specs do compete very well in the A class...especially when you can use a different gear box. We qualified 46th  and were driving a long time 3rd and even 2nd in the A class during the wet night....till we had spring problems that cost us half an hour. We ended up 4th in A class and 26th overall....

Cheers Kars (and team)

Ps. Paul....I gave Sammie the money for the clamps....thanks!
Ps2. You only drank 1 barrel of beer in our tent....what happened?! :)

Races (not 24 hr) / SPA 2010?
August 31, 2010, 09:15:44

Hi all,

Like last year, we have planned to drive this years Spa again respecting the English specs and try to defend our 3rd place in the Améliorée class.
At the moment we are discussing the entry of our English racer with the Belgium organisation again, but better would be that there will be a specific English class in SPA!
Is the English organization already approached with a good deal to enter the 2010 race?
Are there enough teams that want to race on the nicest circuit in the world?

Hope to see you on Spa!

Technical / Re: Tri-Clover speed clamps exhaust
August 30, 2010, 15:57:37
Thanks Paul.....we need to speed up the engine changes big time....we qualified 9th this year, which was a great improvement, but messed up this years race completely
because of a very very very slow engine (and gear box) change....using these clamps is a good start to gain time :)

Hi,

Can someone please provide me the correct type of Tri-Clover clamp we can use for the exhaust to be fitted in a fast way?
Thanks in advance!

Technical / Re: 2010 rules
May 24, 2010, 11:34:38
Hi.....what was actually the end result? I read in the regs that "Both removal and/or addition of material in the induction and exhaust ports is permitted."
So it is officially allowed now? Only in 2010 or is this a so called "transition year"? And what about any ballast?

In Spa we, the Dutch, had nr. 72 last year...so it's probably nr. 76 then...

24h-Race / Re: 2010 24hr

We just used painter's tape to cover the names of the drivers that weren't in the car as other/better tape ruined the vinyl lettering.
The crew made it part of their pit procedure, but nevertheless we did forget it ones (I think).
And...last year, all 24 hrs of the race were completely dry...don't know how the tapes does when it's wet

cheers

ps. when will the official 2010 regs be available?

Technical / Re: Rule changes for 2010
November 07, 2009, 09:27:17
Thanks Paul....I do understand the consideration behind this, looking at the bigger picture. I think that we just have bad luck then, being a compliant rookie in 2009 and  thereupon  being "forced" to invest in filled heads to gain some performance on this for just 1 year. Be notified that in 2010 our aim will be a top ten, so we will adapt! With all the experiences around I am confident you guys can give us some tips on this one  ;)

Toyo tyres are indeed 1/3 the price of Michelins and ½ the price of the Firestones....in NL it is a bit easier to get the Michelins I presume. I do have quite some experience with the Toyo's on my semi race road 2cv....beautiful tyre on the dry, but when wet you will dream again of the Michelins  ;D  Nevertheless, being consistent on rule changes in my opinion it wouldn't be deviant to have a transition year on the tyres as well.....

Looking forward to the definitive regs, so we can prepare for next year Snetterton!!

Technical / Re: Rule changes for 2010

Hi all,

Looking at the draft regs, which contain good ideas, I do not understand the following:

The filled heads "and/or" matter created quit some discussion this year and the conclusion was (please do correct me if I am wrong) that it was not allowed. Nevertheless I do see a transition year on this "illegal" item as not in 2010 but from 2011 removal only will be permitted.

Looking at the tyre changes I do not see a transition year, possibly needed for all teams that have a stock of "legal" Firestone and/or Michelin tyres, which they can't use anymore.

This doesn't look very logical to me and creates the feeling that being too creative with the rules does pay off.

Can anyone please convince me I do see this wrong?

General Discussion / Re: Spa Francorchamps
October 19, 2009, 19:32:18
Thanks Derek...that was a 3rd place for us indeed with the English spec car in the Ameliorée class....we started at the 46 position and ended 23 overall...great weekend!!!
Bad luck for POMS indeed....great pole position and bad luck with the gear box.....so they had to drink a barrel of beer in our party tent.
Good to meet some of the English in Spa.....see you again at Snett next year!

cheers Kars

Good luck with the French  :P

I have asked them if the Bible, as they call the regs, is also available in English or Dutch, but unfortunately....
